Power have the perfect balance and momentum
Peninsula Power will be in full flight for this NPL Queensland clash with Brisbane Roar Youth on Saturday and the home side should be able to extend their winning streak in a straightforward fashion.
Aaron Philp's side are setting the pace in the NPL Queensland table with 35 points from a possible 45, and it is their blend of experience, organisation and freshness which is the key to their success.
Power have a leader in Michael McGowan, who can deliver on set plays and be a target man up front, and a chance creator in Daniel Leck, who can play through the middle and out wide.
Philp has got them playing a positive 4-3-3 system with a compact structure, fast transitions and an edge in the set pieces - they are simply a tough nut to crack and are almost a match for anyone in the division when they are on song.
Roar B are better on the big stage
That will be the challenge for Brisbane Roar Youth on Saturday as they have been at best mixed, and at worst poor, in the recent weeks.
The Blue & Gold Youth have gone L-L-L-W-L across their last five games and Borja Souto's side have been shown up as defensively fragile by some of the weaker clubs in NPL Queensland.
Roar B are an academy-based team and they will line up to play through the lines and create overloaded situations in front of goal on Saturday, but they can be open to the counter-attack if they get things wrong.
They have some good players in Emmett Shaw, Quinn MacNicol and Archie Mitchell who are energetic and have that little bit of technical quality which can make a difference in these games, but Power are just a step ahead in terms of experience and all-round balance.
Backing the hosts
The game looks unlikely to be a shock given the form of both teams and the current odds of 1.2 for the hosts does not offer any value, so we will go with Over 2.5 at 1.22 and BTTS - Yes at 1.5 for the main selections.
A 2-0 or 3-1 Power victory looks about right in the correct score market as the wet weather could play a part if the forecast showers linger into kick off time, but AJ Kelly Park should be full and the atmosphere should play a factor in helping the home team.
Peninsula have been ruthless in their last two victories, winning 4-0 at Gold Coast United and 2-0 at Rochedale Rovers, so they look more likely to win with a bit in hand if the gap in the table is anything to go by.
