- Queensland Lions U23 have won the clear majority of recent head-to-head meetings across senior and U23 NPL Queensland levels.
- Queensland Lions U23 have taken the latest two recorded U23 clashes (1-1 and 1-0 away at Brisbane Olympic U23).
- Queensland Lions U23 have won their last two matches 4-0 and 4-1 while losing only one and drawing one of their last five. Brisbane Olympic U23 have lost three of their last five games 0-3, 3-5 and 0-3.
Lions can lead at both ends in an open U23 fixture
Queensland Lions U23 are the runaway leaders of the 2026 U23/NPL Queensland Youth League on 37 points from 16 matches while Brisbane Olympic U23 are in 6th-7th place on around 20 points from 16. So it is no surprise that the bookies are making Lions the favourites at 1.23 for this encounter, with Olympic U23 out in the cold at 9.5 and the draw priced at 5.45.
But there is some local rivalry sauce added to the mix and in the cool, dry Brisbane weather, this could easily become a live U23 fixture if the visitors are brave enough to trade blows. Olympic U23 are a bit more compact than Lions, who operate in a fluid 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, using the width and pressing from the front to pin opponents back in their half.
Dane Dawson's Olympic U23 side has more structure and discipline in their game but the results of late suggest they need to be sharper in their control and less leaky at the back if they are to match their hosts' quality.
Lions have the goal power to outscore visitors
Dan Barber's Lions are ruthless and front-footed with their youth side operating more like an attacking machine than a work in progress. The home side's firepower is the foundation of their U23/NPL Queensland Youth League dominance this season and they have added some more multi-goal wins to their tally with their two most recent outings.
Olympic U23 have nicked goals in pockets, but they have allowed their defence to be breached three times or more in multiple games. They will need a better defensive showing to overcome the Lions here, but they have the forwards and midfield to get on the board if they can get their transitions right.
A win is likely to come for the Lions, but we will take a home win with 2-0 or 3-1 in the correct score markets as our preference as this is a Brisbane Olympic U23 game they can nick, but they won't be able to escape unscathed. Over 2.5 goals at 1.22 looks good to us as the visitors could land a punch or two if they play on the front foot while BTTS, at 1.49, also looks very live if Olympic can land a counterpunch.
