An away win looks likely
Eastern Suburbs will be the favourites when they go head-to-head with Rochedale Rovers in the NPL Queensland 2026 this Friday and, although we agree that the visitors should have the momentum, there are a few caveats to consider when deciding which side of the draw to take.
Jordan Manning has inherited a very good setup at Eastern Suburbs and the Queensland club have been tough to get a grip on in all the games we have seen of them since he took over.
The side generally line up in a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3 and are always set up to press hard, with some good analytical work going on behind the scenes.
They are high-energy, with lots of numbers in midfield, and use the energy gained from their pressing to get out and exploit space on the counter-attack.
They are a 2.0 shot for a win here, and they certainly have the away momentum to justify that price ahead of Rochedale Rovers at 2.9 and the draw at 4.0.
Plenty of reasons to go against the odds
Easts are 7th in NPL Queensland 2026, having accumulated 28 points from 19 games, and the Rovers are 10th with 15 points from the same amount of games.
Rochedale are certainly a pragmatically structured and youthful team that can either build patiently or get it forward quickly when needed, but this seems a classic case of press-versus-transition.
The home side could clog the pitch up, and if they survive the first 15-20 minutes of pressure, there will be plenty of counter-attacking space to exploit.
We won't be having a go at the odds here because the market is probably right to have Eastern as the favourites, but we will be backing the goals.
Easts should win this but Rochedale have enough of a track record of causing upsets against the stronger sides, and with their home record being particularly erratic, it doesn't feel like a banker.
Over 2.5 goals is available at 1.3 and Both Teams to Score Yes is 1.3, which tells you a lot about the market makers' view of this clash.
Rochedale have a 2.00-2.20 goals-for/goals-against ratio in their ten matches in NPL Queensland 2026, while Eastern's is 1.56-1.33, so we are getting a good price on a game that should see plenty of action at both ends.
The head-to-head record is locked at 1-1 in NPL Queensland, but Rochedale put the visitors to the sword in a 6-1 away win when they met in NPL Queensland 2023, so the value play here is to take Easts to edge a tight contest.
Rochedale Rovers come into this after a three-game losing run that saw them lose at home to SD Raiders FC in the Australia Cup 2026 and then Brisbane City in NPL Queensland 2026, so there are certainly enough signs that they are out of sorts to make us shy away from the obvious bet.
