Expect an open clash of styles on Saturday
South Melbourne FC will try to make things chaotic when they host Melbourne Victory in the Australia Cup 2026 on Saturday, but the A-League team will surely have other ideas.
Hellas are a front-foot team that like to play with a high tempo, winning the ball back in the opponents' half and countering with pace in wide areas. Boss Sinisa Cohadzic has made them a threat on the counter-attack, but they are more vulnerable when they are on the back foot.
Bul Juach is the main goal threat, having bagged three of the club's last five goals, and it would be no surprise to see him make a difference on the big day. But Victory will look to control the tempo and play through their own build-up to create chances, although they will also do plenty of pressing to win the ball high up the field.
Victory can edge a lively contest
Giovanni Savarese's side are coming off four wins and one draw from their last five, so they are clearly in good nick. They have conceded just six goals away from home in all competitions, but they are rarely troubled defensively at this level and they have found the net freely in the final third.
Victory are the narrow favourites at 1.74, but we feel there is a touch of extra value in the Over 2.5 goals at 1.71 and Both Teams to Score at 1.66 options for this clash of contrasting styles.
This could be a lively affair, and both sides have more than enough attacking bite to get on the scoresheet, but our preference is for the away side to get the victory. The Boys in Blue are unbeaten in seven on the road, winning five and drawing two, and look like good value at 11/10. Victory will have their hands full against a talented South Melbourne side, but they should find enough to edge the contest.
Clarismario Rodrigus has two goals in Victory's last six, and his extra energy could be a game-changer on the day.
