- Sporting Kansas City have lost four and drawn one of their last five MLS fixtures.
- LA Galaxy have won two, drawn two and lost one of their last five MLS games.
Wicky’s men in a rut
Sporting Kansas City enter this match bottom of the MLS 2026 table with 5 points from 10 matches and it has been a dismal start to the campaign for club and fans alike.
Raphael Wicky’s appointment as head coach in January 2026 brought with it a much bolder and more aggressive pressing style to the club, but the results have not yet materialised and his side have had little to show for their efforts thus far.
A 5-0 defeat away to Chicago Fire was followed by a 1-0 home draw against Seattle Sounders last time out, and it is fair to say that Wicky has work to do in Kansas City.
They do have an impressive recent record in this fixture, however, having beaten LA Galaxy 2-1 away in the last meeting of the two in MLS 2026 and there is no doubting that they can cause the Galaxy defence problems on Thursday.
Dejan Joveljic is the man to watch for the hosts with 5 goals in 10 MLS 2026 appearances, but Sporting Kansas City are a disjointed unit at present and it will be difficult for them to break down an organised Galaxy backline.
Galaxy can grind it out on the road
Los Angeles Galaxy have been much more solid in MLS 2026, occupying 12th place after collecting 16 points from 12 matches.
The Galaxy are a mid-table team in the truest sense of the word and Greg Vanney’s appointment as manager in December 2020 has been a positive move, as he has installed a possession-based style that has brought some stability and clarity to a club that had been in chaos prior to his arrival.
They drew 1-1 at home to Vancouver Whitecaps last time out, but their 2-1 win away to 915806 prior to that shows that they can get results on the road.
With two wins, two draws and two defeats from six away MLS 2026 outings, the Galaxy can certainly be expected to get something from their trip to Kansas City, and the visitors’ superior form, organisation and tactical discipline make them favourites at 1.92 to take all three points.
High-scoring affair likely
These two sides are on completely opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of their playing style, with Wicky’s Sporting Kansas City much more aggressive and looking to win the ball high up the pitch and attack vertically.
Vanney’s Galaxy, on the other hand, are much more patient and prefer to control the ball with the majority of possession, rotating the ball in a structured way and pressing with methodical intelligence.
This contrast should make for an end-to-end game, with the Galaxy’s composure and ability to break through tight spaces with patient build-up play able to frustrate their hosts and allow them to strike in transition.
Sporting Kansas City have only scored five goals in five home games this season and are averaging just one goal per game at home in MLS 2026, while LA Galaxy are averaging 1.50 goals scored and 1.83 goals conceded per away game in MLS 2026.
These two teams have averaged 1.5 goals each per match in their last five meetings and both sides should be able to find the net on Thursday in what looks set to be a high-scoring game. Both Teams to Score - Yes is priced at 1.45, but I’m going for Over 2.5 goals at 1.43 as both sides should be in the mood to attack.
Gabriel Pec has been in excellent form for LA Galaxy, scoring three of their last six goals in MLS 2026, and can get on the scoresheet again on Thursday. Joao Klauss is the focal point for the Galaxy, however, with him netting five times in eight MLS 2026 appearances so far this year.
