A tale of two approaches
Sydney Olympic FC and SD Raiders FC will each approach Wednesday's match with very different methods following a change in coach for Sydney Olympic and the continued push from Goran Ljuboja at SD Raiders.
Labinot Haliti started the season in charge of Sydney Olympic, but Michael Melito took over in mid-April and has brought a much more pragmatic and compact style to proceedings. They now sit 16th in the NPL New South Wales 2026 standings with 11 points from 17 matches, but they have fared better since the turn of the year.
SD Raiders meanwhile, are having a much better season and sit 12th in the table with 19 points from 16 games. They appear to be much more at ease at the level and have performed well in their first ever NPL Men's NSW campaign.
Ljuboja has the team push up and play high, direct football and their pressing style is relentless. They can be exposed by balls in behind, but they certainly won't be sitting back on the back foot on Wednesday and will certainly give Sydney Olympic a good game.
Olympic are much improved
Sydney Olympic have just one win, one draw and six defeats from their eight home matches so far in the NPL New South Wales 2026. They've conceded an average of 2.12 goals per game in those matches and have scored just 0.88 goals per home game themselves, which is a concern in this division.
SD Raiders have two wins, one draw and three defeats from their six away league games and have averaged 1.83 goals scored per game away from home.
Sydney Olympic have won one, drawn one and lost three of their last five, but they did beat Blacktown City FC away from home in their last match (0-2) and before that they drew with St George City (1-1). Melito has clearly given them a more structured foundation and they may be able to hold firm against the visitors on Wednesday.
A wide open game
SD Raiders have slightly more points, are marginally better in attack and have the momentum from their most recent away win. But Sydney Olympic are clearly more resilient and have a lot more head-to-head momentum after hammering them 5-1 away in this matchup just three months ago in the current campaign.
A very close and competitive six-pointer is expected as both sides have plenty to play for and will be fighting tooth and nail to avoid the dreaded dropzone come the end of the season. Over 2.5 goals is the play here at 1.59.
