The Cove FC vs Eastern United to be an entertaining game
The Cove FC come into Saturday’s SA State League 1 fixture on the back of a 1-1 draw with South Adelaide in their first outing of the new campaign. Eastern United are currently leading the table after a 5-2 demolition of the same opposition. The two sides appear evenly matched on paper and this game promises to be an exciting game between two sides with contrasting styles.
Eastern United’s attacking mindset and high tempo will surely contrast The Cove’s pragmatism and organisation. Eastern United use wide players and their high press well to win the ball back in advanced positions and score goals whilst The Cove FC set up to defend well, play their football in a structured manner and can play on the counter-attack. Both sides will be eager to grab an early victory and local bragging rights, so expect a lot of energy and action in the goal area.
The Cove have been in mixed form, starting the new season with a 1-1 draw, they’ve beaten Pontian Eagles 8-1 and South Adelaide 4-0, but also lost 2-0 to Adelaide Cobras. They are a difficult to beat and they are capable of scoring goals in bunches, especially from set-pieces and open play when they click, as they did in the opening game last season. Eastern United have been strong, but suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat to Para Hills, but then went on to beat South Adelaide 5-2 and Adelaide Blue Eagles 3-2. They are certainly an offensive side and will have to be watched closely.
The Cove FC are a slight odds on favourite at 2.07, but Eastern United can be backed at 2.65 and the draw can be bet at 4.1, so there should be plenty of goal-mouth action. There is little in the way of recent head-to-head between these two, so both teams have a clean sheet to chase this season. Eastern United’s midfield and attacking line have been responsible for their multi-goal outings so far and look the most likely source for an Eastern United victory. Both teams to score - Yes is an obvious play, but is coming in at 1.3, which is too short in this writer’s opinion.
Eastern United’s offensive talents and defensive frailties should allow The Cove to get on the scoresheet, but Eastern United’s ability to score in bunches and The Cove’s inability to keep a clean sheet so far this season should see both of these teams score. The Cove have had some emphatic wins and tough losses recently, so we think this one ends as a close game, with the draw and an Eastern United win being the most probable outcomes, with a 2-2 result being the most likely score.
