- Altrincham have won four of their last five matches and lost one in all competitions.
- FC United of Manchester have won just two, drawn one and lost three of their last six away matches.
- Altrincham have won all five home matches, drawing none and conceding an average of 0.80 goals per match.
Home side is in a groove
Altrincham come into this fixture in great form and should have too much for their visitors from Manchester on Saturday. The Robins have won eight, drawn zero and lost two of their last ten matches in all competitions, which represents a real improvement under head coach Neil Gibson.
Altrincham are a possession team that can hurt opponents when the press bites and have a roaming No. 10 who can be a livewire at home and away. They have scored 2.40 goals per game at home and conceded just 0.80 goals per fixture at The J David Jones Stadium, so there are a few ingredients for a home win on Saturday.
After losing 3-1 to Boreham Wood, Altrincham bounced back in style with a 3-1 win over Aldershot Town in their previous home outing. Jimmy Knowles, the man with three of The Robins' ten goals in their last five, can again be a threat on the field, and perhaps the odds-on hosts if the Reds overcommit to chasing the game.
The Reds are a little off the pace
FC United of Manchester's form has been patchy at best in the last couple of weeks, and they enter this fixture on the back of two draws - a 2-2 draw away to Stockton Town and a 1-1 draw at home to Emley AFC - in the Northern Premier League Premier Division 2026/2027.
The Reds are a more conservative unit, a team that plays with structure and tries to win on set pieces and counter-attacks, but they don't tend to press teams off the ball. Adam Le Fondre, who has scored two of FC United's three goals in their last five, will try to pick Altrincham off, but they won't have enough to hurt them on this occasion.
Away from home, FC United have won just twice, drawn once and lost thrice in all competitions, so they come into this one in a little bit of a rut. The last time they were on the road, they lost 1-0 to Alfreton Town in the Northern Premier League Premier Division 2026/2027 and the hosts can build on that to claim the win.
Home team is worth backing
Altrincham are the stronger of the two teams and their current home form suggests they will have the edge. There is a bit of a contrast in styles between these two teams, so if The Robins dominate territory and force FC United to defend deep for periods, they can cause them some real problems.
The market is on the side of the hosts at 8/25, which seems about right considering their current form and we are going to side with Neil Gibson's men in this one.
