First meeting in any competition
This FA Cup Third Qualifying Round tie is a first-ever competitive meeting between Barton Town FC and Chorley, but the history books will be written by the Swans on Saturday, if they can continue their incredible cup run. Barton are in terrific form in all fronts at the moment, and Joe Wood, Tom Waudby and Grant Tait have all been chipping in with goals of late.
That result is the only one that Barton have conceded in their current FA Cup campaign, and they backed it up with a 2-0 win over North Ferriby in the replay of the First Qualifying Round. The Swans are solid and compact, direct and dangerous on the counter, a recipe for giant-killing, and Anthony Bowsley has done a brilliant job organising them.
Chorley are a seasoned Enterprise National League North side, with boss Andy Preece's experience and structure making the Magpies a tough opponent. They've got enough firepower to hurt anyone, with Mike Calveley offering bite in midfield and a knack for cool finishing, while Sam Fielding has been a live wire for them. He strikes from range in the 2-1 victory over Spalding United.
Barton Town are well priced
Chorley have won three of their last five in all comps, but they are hanging around mid-table in the Enterprise National League North. That's not necessarily a bad thing, and the Magpies will feel that they can make a mark in this competition, but Barton Town are in strong form and they have the form of an FA Cup side.
Preece's men are a higher tempo side, they play on the wings and they pressure the ball, so they should test Barton Town's shape. The hosts are a low-block side who are dangerous on transition, and we see this being a classic cup scrap, where set pieces and second balls will tell. Barton Town have the momentum and they are well worth backing at 119/20 to spring the upset at home on Saturday.
