- Bromsgrove Sporting have lost two and won three of their last five league games.
- Real Bedford have won three and lost two of their last five league contests.
- Real Bedford beat Bromsgrove Sporting 2-0 in the reverse fixture earlier this season.
Promotion chasing Royals to put it to Sporting
League position, away form and the respective quality of these two teams suggest Real Bedford should be having the better of the battle when they take on Bromsgrove Sporting in the Southern League Premier Division Central in 2025-2026.
The Royals sit 3rd in the Southern League Premier Division Central with 78 points from 41 games, while Sporting are 18th with 44 points from the same number of contests. Real Bedford have the much better away record, having won 11 of their 20 matches on the road, while the hosts have won seven of their 20 at the Victoria Ground.
The visitors have been a bit up and down of late, routing Redditch United 4-1 away, edging Alvechurch 3-2 at home and losing 0-1 to Leiston. The hosts beat Stratford Town 2-1 away and St Ives Town 2-0 away in their two games prior to a 0-2 home defeat to Halesowen Town two weeks ago.
Bedford’s ball on the deck attack should beat Sporting’s direct game
That’s the sort of game that Sporting like to play with Luke Benbow - the Baggies’ targetman who has scored two of their last six goals - up front. Benbow gives Sporting a focal point to build from, but they often concede possession and soak up pressure before hitting teams on the counter.
Bedford’s system is different. The manager has created a high-tempo, high-pressing unit that moves the ball quickly and can dominate games. Josh Allen leads the line for the Royals, scoring five of their 12 recent goals, and he’s a threat when he gets the ball in the final third.
The visitors’ width and overlapping full backs create chances for the centre forwards and also make them dangerous on the break. Bromsgrove Sporting are the underdogs here, but they have won their last two and a goal-fest is expected with the ‘Both teams to score’ market going off at 2/5.
Bromsgrove Sporting can nick it
Real Bedford are the favourites at 129/100, although the draw is only 67/25 and Sporting are on the other side at 147/100. The visiting side has the better form and stats, but Bedford’s off-field problems and ownership stories have added some extra spice to their games of late.
This is a fixture that could mean so much for both teams with the promotion chasing side taking on a team that is fighting for survival, and Sporting will want to be in the contest. But given Real’s quality, away form and style of play, we think the Bedford side should be edging this one with our prediction of a 2-1 away win.
