Rocky Mountains could be the scene of a goal-fest
Colorado Rapids have been in pretty decent form of late, posting a 4-1 away win over Sporting Kansas City last time out, while Houston Dynamo come into this weekend’s MLS clash off the back of successive defeats.
The Rapids are 15th in MLS 2026 with nine points from six games, while the Dynamo sit 19th with six points from five matches.
Colorado boss Matt Wells has implemented a flexible 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 system since taking over in December 2025 that allows his side to control the tempo and switch between an organised press and possession-based play.
Houston boss Ben Olsen has laid out a different blueprint for his side, instead opting to exploit the moments of transition and attack at pace using a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3. The Dynamo are a side that should thrive when they are on the front foot, but lack the ability to hold the ball in the centre of the park for extended periods.
The home side should win this one
Paxten Aaronson, who has three goals in six MLS 2026 appearances, is the danger man for Colorado Rapids, while Guilherme Augusto is the talisman of the visitors with four goals and three assists in five games.
Augusto has been directly involved in seven of Houston Dynamo’s eight MLS 2026 goals, but he may find it tough to get a foothold in this one. Wells’ men have been more positive and proactive in the final third since the Englishman took over at the end of last year. Their high pressing game has given them a distinct identity early on in MLS 2026, while the presence of Aaronson in the wide areas has provided more to the attack.
