- D.C. United have won two and lost two of their four home fixtures in MLS 2026, scoring five goals in four.
- CF Montreal have lost six of their seven away MLS 2026 fixtures, conceding 20 goals at an average of 2.86 per game.
- D.C. United are 14th in MLS 2026 with 16 points from 12 games and CF Montreal are 24th with 12 points from 11 games.
DC United are finding their feet
D.C. United have been a much more organised and tough to beat side since René Weiler took over as head coach in July 2025. The club’s back line has been well-structured and the tempo of their play has been measured, allowing the team to dictate when to press and when to sit back.
The Swiss tactician has also introduced the sort of situational pressing that should get them plenty of turnovers and his system, which is generally a 4-4-2 or hybrid 4-2-3-1, has made them difficult to break down.
Louis Munteanu has been a clinical finisher for D.C. United, netting three goals in the club’s last five and Tai Baribo has been a constant threat up top with six in nine MLS 2026 appearances.
Montreal’s play has more flair, but not more results
CF Montreal are a completely different animal under interim boss Philippe Eullaffroy, who has been in charge since April 2026. The Frenchman has been more inclined to press the ball high up the pitch, while his wingbacks and wide midfielders have taken license to push forward when in possession.
The result is a team that is exciting, but erratic - and somewhat fragile at the back - with a flurry of goals at both ends of the field. The most recent three head-to-head meetings have seen D.C. United win none, Montreal win one and two draws with the last meeting, nine months ago, finishing 1-1.
Montreal have won two, drawn one and lost two of their last five, beating Orlando City 2-0, drawing 2-2 with Portland Timbers and losing 2-0 at home to Chicago Fire in their last three.
Prince Osei Owusu has been their danger man in MLS 2026 with six goals in 11 appearances.
DCU should edge the entertaining clash
Weiler’s tactical improvements have D.C. United looking good to edge this clash, particularly given Montreal have failed to win in their last three visits here.
The hosts are 23/25 to do so again and there will be enough goals in this game, with Over 2.5 goals at 81/100 and Both Teams to Score - Yes at 13/20 to come in.
