- Elgin City have won the last H2H in League Two 2-1, eight weeks ago.
- Elgin City have won eight, drawn three, and lost six of their 17 home matches in League Two.
A close and open encounter expected
Elgin City and Stranraer are level on 44 points from 35 games played, separated by just one place in the League Two table, with the visitors ahead by one.
City’s form has been indifferent, with one win, two draws, and two defeats from their last five. Their last two matches have both ended in draws, 2-2 away at Stirling Albion, and 1-1 away to Spartans FC.
Stranraer have been similarly inconsistent, W1, D2, L2 from their last five. Their most recent outings saw them lose 0-1 at home to Forfar Athletic, followed by a 1-1 draw at home to Stirling Albion.
Elgin have the edge at the top
A win for the hosts on Saturday would give them the edge in the race for the play-off places and add to their recent head-to-head form, with both sides winning two and drawing one of the last five meetings in League Two.
Allan Hale has made Elgin City a lot more flexible since taking over in December 2023, implementing a settled spine and switching between narrow 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 formations. The team have an impressive ability to build up in a structured manner, make rapid transitions, and pose a constant threat from set pieces.
Chris Aitken has been at the club since October 2024, and has overseen a pragmatic, compact approach that has seen them become very tough to break down. They will look to counter when possible and pose a threat from their own set pieces, but they’re not likely to dominate the ball for prolonged periods.
Back Elgin for the win
Both teams have an equal opportunity of getting something from this game, but with the recent meeting still fresh in the memory, I think Elgin will have the advantage on Saturday. Both teams have been involved in high-scoring games recently, so I expect a high-scoring encounter.
The odds are stacked in favour of the home side, so I’m going for Elgin to win, over 2.5 goals, and BTTS.
Elgin have scored 2.0 goals per H2H on average across their last five at home, while Stranraer have scored 1.0 per H2H away from home in their last five. With both strikers in red-hot form, back them to put their best foot forward once again here.
Ryan Sargent is Elgin’s leading striker this season, with ten goals in 35 League Two appearances, while Deryn Lang is Stranraer’s most potent weapon, with ten in 29.
