- Gainsborough Trinity have won two, drawn one and lost two of their last five.
- Anstey Nomads have won three, drawn one and lost one of their last five.
- Gainsborough Trinity have won only two of their five home games in all competitions, scoring seven goals in five.
Nomads can nick a surprise cup win
A level gap in the football pyramid should probably be the difference here as Northern Premier League Premier Division side Gainsborough Trinity host Anstey Nomads of the Northern Premier League Division One.
Anstey seem to have the better recent form to back up a potential upset, however, as they have won three, drawn one and lost just one of their last five games. Trinity have won just two, drawn one and lost two of their most recent five.
No previous meetings
Gainsborough Trinity manager Russ Wilcox has done a solid job with the hosts since taking over on 1 July 2023. Trinity are compact when out of possession, press well in patches and have enough quality to burst forward in transition.
But there will be no bad blood for this cup tie as the teams have no previous competitive meetings. Anstey are more solid-looking, using the width of the pitch well and showing a good level of build-up play and threat from set pieces.
Nomads have away edge
Trinity's most recent statement win at home was a 3-0 victory over Leamington in FA Cup qualifying, but the fact they then had to be pulled back into a 3-3 draw with a penalty shootout defeat at Bury the following week shows they can be dragged into a battle.
Anstey's recent away record is superior to Gainsborough's home one, having won three, drawn one and lost only two of their away fixtures in all competitions. Nomads have scored 11 goals in six trips away, while Trinity have found the net only seven times in five home fixtures.
Nomads have played their best footy away from home
The hosts can win games by making a sudden change of pace, but we think Nomads' structure and organisation should be able to smother those surges. Anstey also have the superior recent record across all competitions with six wins, two draws and two defeats from ten, compared to Trinity's four wins, two draws and four defeats.
Take Anstey to nick this one as they seem the sharper side for this cup fixture, and we like the away odds of 89/50.
