Tight tussle in the far north
Invergordon FC play host to Deveronvale in one of the Highland League's early season games for the new campaign of 2026-2027 and this is a match-up between two sides with no sustained competitive history to go off.
The hosts may have a bit of a head start in that they are the newly promoted side and will no doubt be eager to show their colours and prove that they belong in Scotland's fifth tier, but Deveronvale are an old Highland League hand and possess the edge in terms of experience.
Garry Wood's side are certainly the better of these two sides on paper, but Wood's in-game changes and substitutions have swung some tight games in the League in recent years, suggesting that they have the flexibility to make things awkward for their hosts on Saturday. Vale are fluid and capable of hurting sides with bursts of sustained possession, but they also know when to sit back and keep it tight when necessary.
