Algeria will have been disappointed to open their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign with a 3-0 defeat to Argentina, but their overall form is still solid and they will be confident of a first win in this group when they face Jordan in San Francisco Bay Area Stadium, USA.
Algeria is currently 4th in Group J 2026, but they will be looking to secure the result in this fixture that will see Jordan playing in their first-ever World Cup and Algeria making their long-awaited return to the finals.
Since Vladimir Petkovic was appointed manager in February 2024, Algeria have played with a little more flair than their usual possession-based style, with the Serbian tactician allowing his team to switch formations and play in a more controlled manner, whilst still possessing the ability to switch to vertical attacks at will.

Jordan lost their opening group game 3-1 against Austria in a game that was tightly contested until an early goal set the tone for the first half. New boss Jamal Sellami has a clear plan for his team, but there simply isn't enough talent in the side to execute this in a manner that is likely to get a positive result.
They play a highly-disciplined system in a deep block, but with pace on the wings to counter quickly and exploit the flanks if they can win the ball back in the right areas. In Amine Gouiri, Algeria have a player who is in red-hot form and can take charge of this encounter, having scored four goals in his last five for the national side.
Jordan will be up against it here, and it should be a cracker of a game when Algeria's style of football meets Jordan's reactive approach, which could lead to some drama if Algeria can unlock their defence early. There are some real pacey players in the Algeria side, whilst Jordan have Ali Iyad Olwan, who is their main threat and scored their only goal in the World Cup so far.
