Richmond Park clash of styles in focus
St Pat's v Drogs is a classic clash of two distinct styles in Irish football, and this Friday's Premier Division 2026 fixture between them promises to be equally intriguing. Stephen Kenny's St Patrick's Athletic are pro-active, high-tempo, possession-based footballers who press hard and look to play vertically with the ball, while Kevin Doherty's Drogheda United are a more pragmatic unit who will sit deep, look to get compact and defend in numbers, and hit on the break whenever they can.
St. Pat's, playing with an attacking, mobile inside forward pair and a full-back pair who can overlap and create numerical superiority in attacking areas, are likely to pin the Drogs back and create plenty of turnovers. Their home record of two wins and two defeats from the last four, however, shows that they are far from invincible in Dublin 8.
Drogheda United will come into the game on the back of consecutive draws after a 2-1 away defeat to Waterford FC, 1-1 home draw against Dundalk and a 3-3 draw at home to Waterford FC. Doherty has been working his magic since taking over in December 2021, but Drogheda remain a fragile unit and Mark Doyle remains their main attacking outlet with eight goals in 18 Premier Division 2026 matches so far.
Both teams to score looks a decent bet
St. Pat's are rightly favourites to win at 7/20, but the home side can have lapses in concentration and Drogheda are a tough unit that will frustrate the Saints while also creating chances on the counter-attack. Both Teams to Score - Yes is a decent choice at 23/20, while Over 2.5 goals at 41/50 is also a touch above the odds given these two clubs have been averaging 1.75 goals per game in their respective homes and away from home.
It should be an open, attacking match with plenty of end-to-end football and transitions that suit both clubs well. The Saints are favoured to win and we'll take them to do that on Friday.
