Tottenham (W) can win in a lively fixture with plenty of goalmouth action
The Spuds have been on a poor run of form of late with no wins, one draw and four defeats in their last five in all competitions. However, Martin Ho’s team have struggled on home soil in the Super League Women 2025/2026, with no wins, one draw and one loss in their last two matches at The Home of Football.
Ho has made Tottenham (W) a much more proactive team than many of their WSL counterparts since taking the reins in July 2025. His tactical tweaks have brought a more structured and concerted pressing game to Spurs, which has allowed them to move the ball much quicker on transition and create overloads to get at their opponents with pace and penetration.
While they have been in their own slump, London City Lionesses (W) have enjoyed a slight resurgence since Eder Maestre took charge in December 2025. The Spaniard has brought a more possession-based identity to the club with the Lionesses controlling the midfield areas and dominating with short, vertical combinations. Maestre has also made his team more compact in central areas, moving his inside-forwards in and around the opposition’s central defenders to stretch the play and create holes to exploit.
An exciting clash of tactical identities
This will be a clash of pressing versus possession and it will be an interesting chess match for the managers to execute on the day. Spurs are the more intense side and London City have played some great football at times this season but the hosts have the edge in terms of intensity, so I think their pressing will disrupt the visitors’ flow and rhythm on Sunday.
Bethany England has seven league goals in 19 appearances for Tottenham (W) and has scored two of their five goals in the last five games. She can pounce on any turnovers from the hosts’ pressing game and I’m going to back her to get on the scoreboard in this one.
Freya Godfrey is London City’s top-scorer this season with five goals in 16 WSL appearances and can provide a constant threat on the right-hand side of the attack. However, England’s form makes her the top pick for this game.
I’m siding with Tottenham (W) for the win here at 28/25 as the home side are a much more intense and physical side that should get on top in this matchup. London City come into this game off the back of an impressive 5-0 win at home to Leicester (W), although they drew their previous two games ahead of that. London City’s form in the WSL is 1-2-2 over their last five matches while Tottenham’s is 0-1-4 and that’s the reason I can’t get behind the visitors here. Despite the Spuds’ poor run, I still think they can nick this one.
The odds for over 2.5 match goals are very attractive at 37/50 and it’s a game that should feature plenty of chances and attacking play at both ends of the field.
