- Truro City are 3/20 to win at home against Cirencester.
- Cirencester are unbeaten in FA Cup qualification but face a big step up in class this weekend.
- Truro have won four of their last five competitive matches in all competitions.
Tinners are trending upward
Truro City look good value at 3/20 for this home game against a side that are likely to sit deep and make it difficult in an attempt to cause an upset. We'll take a bet on the Tinners to take the points at the Truro Sports Hub on Saturday, but we also believe that Cirencester can make this close enough to potentially score at some stage in the game.
The last two recorded meetings between these clubs came in 2015 and 2021, and were both won by Truro City. The earlier clash, in 2015, was a 1-0 win in the FA Trophy and the latter a 1-0 victory in the FA Trophy. The record meeting between the clubs, a 4-1 win for Cirencester in 2014, was decided then.
Cirencester are currently mid-table in the Hellenic League Premier Division on eight or nine points from their first eight or nine games and will find this an enormous step up in terms of quality and physicality. Brian Hughes has them organised and they are very difficult to break down, but they will have to work extremely hard to frustrate their hosts here.
Cirencester will make life tough
Truro City boss John Askey has his side playing some adaptable, attack-minded football in the FA Cup qualification and he has the tools at his disposal to hurt Cirencester on Saturday. The Tinners like to get wide men on the ball and get crosses into the box, but they also play with a directness and can hurt teams with their set piece delivery.
Jack Stretton is the livewire and after his late brace against Maidstone United in midweek, he looks the type to finish off a close game here. And that's not to mention the pace and finishing of Dominic Johnson-Fisher, who gave the Tinners a sharp edge with his brace in the cup win over Leicester City U21 a fortnight ago, or Luke Jephcott's set-piece prowess which also showed when he hit the penalty and the free-kick in that 4-1 success.
Truro have the quality to edge a close one
Cirencester are solid and will look to remain compact and sting their hosts on the break or dead ball situations. Their recent form has been mixed-to-steady with a 3-0 away win at Fleetlands followed by an FA Cup qualifying replay win at Farnham Town keeping their run going. If they can survive the opening 30 minutes, the visitors can certainly make this awkward for Truro, but they may lack the quality to take the game to the Tinners.
The Tinners are sitting around 6th-7th in the National League South tables, which tells you they have made a solid start to the season. Our belief is that they will take control of this game if they get the first goal and that should be enough for them to progress. A Truro win with a 2-0 or 2-1 scoreline looks the most likely outcome to this cup tie.
