- UCD are unbeaten at home in the First Division 2026 (W2, D0, L0).
- Cork City are unbeaten away from home in the First Division 2026 (W1, D1).
- UCD have failed to win any of their last 3 home head-to-head fixtures (D1, L2).
Cork City can be ruthless in the final third
Cork City have been in fine form since the beginning of the season, coming into this fixture unbeaten in their last 5 league games (W4, D1). Since Gerard Nash took the reins in May 2025, his Cork City team have taken on a much more aggressive style of play, pressing opponents relentlessly and looking to counterattack at pace.
The Leesiders have hit the ground running in the First Division 2026, currently sitting top of the table with 13 points from five games and looking to make an immediate return to the top-flight.
A 1-1 draw away at Cobh Ramblers followed by a 2-1 home victory against Longford Town have been part of their start to the season. Cork have scored five goals in their two away league matches so far, conceding just two goals in the process. As a recently relegated club, Cork will be looking to get straight back into the top-tier and will need to keep up this form.
UCD are no pushovers
University College Dublin have shown promise in the opening stages of the First Division 2026, sitting 4th with seven points from their opening five games, six fewer than league leaders Cork. Andy Myler has implemented a style of football which promotes possession-based play, and a tempo which is suitable to his youthful squad.
Myler is first and foremost a developer of players since his appointment as manager back in December 2019, but they have shown discipline in maintaining their shape and keeping the ball in the current campaign.
UCD have already played two home games in the First Division 2026 and are yet to lose either fixture (W2, L0), conceding just one goal in the process. A 0-0 draw at Longford Town and a narrow 0-1 away loss in their most recent two games are slightly misleading, as they have failed to lose at home this season.
Cork to edge a tight encounter
With Cork having the better of the two teams and boasting a much superior record in the H2H, we’re going with the Leesiders to get the win on Friday. The odds on Cork to win are 61/100, with UCD coming in at 24/5 and the draw at 53/20, making Cork the clear favourite.
Cork’s attack is firing, scoring five goals in their first two away games while conceding just twice. UCD’s defence has been rock solid at home so far, so the ‘Under 2.5 goals’ market at 83/100 looks intriguing.
Ciaran Behan is UCD’s star player and the Irishman has scored four of their six goals across their previous five First Division fixtures. His clinical nature could cause problems for Cork if UCD are able to keep the pace of the game relatively slow and controlled. However, Sean Maguire leads the line for Cork with five First Division goals in their five-game run, making Cork an immediate threat on the counter attack. It will be a tactical chess match, but Cork City have the firepower to edge a close encounter.
