- Stuttgart have dominated the limited head-to-head history between these two clubs, winning multiple of the competitive and friendly meetings since 2019, including a 5-1 thrashing of Young Boys at the MHPArena in the 2025-26 UEFA Europa League group stage.
- Stuttgart have won three and drawn one of their last five competitive games, including a 3-0 win at Gladbach and a 4-1 victory at Leverkusen.
- Young Boys have lost four of their last five games in all competitions, conceding 17 times in the process, including a 4-1 loss at Thun and a 6-2 home defeat to Grasshoppers.
Hoeness has turned Stuttgart into the real deal
VfB Stuttgart are 3/10 favourites to beat BSC Young Boys Bern in a UEFA Europa League fixture that the hosts have to win to secure top spot in the league-phase table and a place in the round of 16.
Gerardo Seoane’s men are the bookies’ long shots at 15/2, but their form is poor while Stuttgart have gone from bad to brilliant under the guidance of Sebastian Hoeness.
The Red and Whites have surged into the top five of the Bundesliga after a terrific run of results in January that have seen them win three and draw one of their last five matches. Their most recent performance was a 3-0 demolition of Gladbach that would have pleased any manager as the players executed the plan with intensity and flair.
Hoeness has been flexible in his use of the 4-2-3-1 system, rotating midfielders and wide players while making good use of Deniz Undav as a game-changing sub. Jamie Leweling has been in form, scoring and taking on defenders directly in the recent victory at Borussia Park.
Swiss champions have been shipping goals
Ermedin Demirović remains Stuttgart’s primary goal threat, consistently finding the net in both Bundesliga and European fixtures. Young Boys, who will have to play this game without their away support because of UEFA sanctions, have no answer to the powerful striker.
Chris Bedia, who leads the Bern club’s scoring charts this season, remains their primary attacking outlet, but Jamie Leweling and Deniz Undav all offer more than Young Boys’ number nine.
The visitors have been in awful form, losing four of their last five in all competitions and shipping 17 goals in the process. Domestically, they have fallen to around sixth in the Swiss Super League with a string of results that includes a 4-1 defeat at Thun and a 6-2 collapse at home to Grasshoppers.
Pressure on Seoane to get a result
Seoane’s side have contributed in Europe, but the same problems have persisted with Joël Monteiro and Edimilson Fernandes getting on the sheet while Christian Fassnacht has produced some of his best work of the season, leading the club’s assists chart and topping the club’s goal involvement stats.
But there is less quality and guile in their ranks than Stuttgart have and, even with the disadvantage of playing away, they may not be able to get the better of their hosts. Seoane’s 4-2-3-1 is based around narrow central overloads, high pressing and quick transitions via the full-backs and wide forwards. It can be a joy to watch when it clicks, but Young Boys have been leaking goals all season and could easily get overrun by the more structured and possession-based hosts.
The Over 2.5 goals market is very much favoured at 12/25, but our selection is to take Stuttgart to win 2-0 or 3-1 because of the respective form of the clubs and the fact that Young Boys have been conceding multiple goals in recent games.
