- West Bromwich are unbeaten in their last five Championship matches (W2, D3).
- Millwall have not lost either of their last two away games (W1, D1).
Championship’s best away side will be hard to stop
Millwall are having a season to remember in the Championship and the Lions should be able to overcome the Baggies when the sides meet at The Hawthorns on Friday. Alex Neil’s men, who replaced Neil Harris as Lions boss in December 2024, have fashioned a solid, pragmatic and adaptive team that are rarely seen to overplay.
The visitors will surely set up in a similar way to the 3-0 home win over West Bromwich they recorded in this fixture six months ago and look set to repeat the trick. The Lions have won two, drawn one and lost two of their last five Championship games, with their most recent three results consisting of a 1-1 away draw at Ipswich Town, a 2-1 away win at Middlesbrough and a narrow 2-1 home defeat to Norwich City.
The Lions have a strong away record in the Championship, averaging 1.35 goals scored and a mere 1.10 goals per game conceded on their travels. Millwall are fourth in the table with 72 points from 41 games, 27 more than West Bromwich, who are 20th.
Baggies are a better side, but Neil’s side are more consistent
James Morrison took over as Baggies head coach in February 2026 and has done a good job of bringing the side’s style of play into the modern era. West Bromwich favour a progressive, high-tempo style based around positional play, rapid transitions and structured pressing. The hosts are also more than capable of playing a slower game if they are dominating the rhythm or outnumbering the opposition in a particular area of the pitch.
The home side’s last two results have been a pair of draws - 2-2 at home to Wrexham followed by a 0-0 stalemate away at Blackburn Rovers. They have avoided defeat in their last three home games (W1, D2) and should be up for this clash with a Millwall side that they have failed to beat in their last two meetings on home soil.
Aune Selland Heggeboe leads the way in the scoring charts for the hosts with nine goals in 41 Championship appearances, but Josh Maja has contributed two goals in their current five-match unbeaten run. Mihailo Ivanovic has matched Heggeboe’s tally for Millwall with his nine goals in 39 Championship matches this season, but Josh Coburn has been on a rampage recently with four of the Lions’ last six goals coming from his foot in his last five appearances.
Millwall can maintain winning away streak
We’re going to go with the away side to extend their unbeaten run to three away games because their away form is so superior to West Bromwich’s, particularly in the Championship where they average 1.80 points per away game compared to West Bromwich's 1.45 at home.
The contrast in playing styles should favour the visitors, who will be content to keep the game compact and clog up the wide areas so that they can be dangerous on set pieces, from which they thrive, and get men into the box for aerial duels. Neil’s team are the best on the road in this division and should be good enough to nick this one, with odds of 41/20 representing a good bit of value.
