- Wexford have won three of their last five games, drawing once and losing once.
- Finn Harps have lost their last three, failing to win their last five.
- Finn Harps are winless in their last two away games (D1, L1).
Wexford worth a wager to continue good run
Wexford FC have won all three of their last home league games, but the visit of Finn Harps FC on Friday will be much tougher than their recent assignments.
The Red and Whites are in fine form and sit third in the First Division with 19 points from 12 matches, which is just what they missed out on by a few points last season. Finn Harps are in eighth position, having collected only 11 points from their first 12 First Division 2026 fixtures, which would be considered a poor return.
Wexford are the clear favourites at 73/100 and Finn Harps are quite rightly priced as big outsiders at 61/20, but we think Ian Ryan’s side are worth backing to extend their winning streak at home, which has seen them take nine of nine points available.
The Red and Whites have won two and drawn three of the last five head-to-heads in all competitions, but failed to win at Finn Park just seven weeks ago, so we could see a bit of fight from the visitors in this important clash.
Midfield control key to Harps’ success
David Rogers has been in charge of Finn Harps and has been slowly building his side to compete at this level while integrating youngsters from his successful academy. Tony McNamee is the midfield general that dictates the tempo and gets the ball to their physical target striker in a structure that should contain many more home-grown players in the future.
Wexford are a different sort of animal to most first division sides, as they are the most striker-centric club in the division, with Ian Ryan favouring a compact midfield that allows his team to defend the penalty area with numbers. Mikie Rowe and Aaron Dobbs are focal points and are well served by the wide threats and overlapping full-backs in a direct, set-piece-heavy gameplan.
The hosts are a pragmatic outfit that will try to counter punch, but can hurt teams on the counter and from set-pieces. They have scored ten times in six home games and will surely make this a game of interest with their aerial dominance.
Harps can’t rely on their defence
The visitors have conceded 8 goals in 6 away league matches, so we can’t see them shutting Wexford out, while the over 2.5 goals market is a touch pricey at 79/100. Both teams to score is just as tempting and can be backed at 18/25, although we will take the formbook and home record into account and side with Wexford to continue their good run with a win.
A clash of two different styles promises a chess match of sorts and we expect the hosts’ aerial dominance to eventually break through in what should be an open game that Harps will have to work hard to control.
