- Wrexham’s home record in the Championship this season is 10 wins, six draws and six losses.
- Middlesbrough’s away record in the Championship this season is 10 wins, seven draws and five losses.
- Wrexham have won two and lost three of their last five league games, while Middlesbrough have won two and drawn two of their last five.
Tempting odds on over 2.5 goals
Wrexham have played well enough in their first season back at this level since 1981 - 82 to be occupying sixth spot in the Championship, but there is no hiding from the fact that they have lost three of their last five and won only two.
Phil Parkinson’s side have been quite solid at home, however, winning one and losing one of their last two at the Racecourse Ground. Wrexham are an organised and disciplined side, as Parkinson has instilled in them since taking over in July 2021, and they like to play in a 3-5-2 or 5-3-2 formation with the ability to transition quickly from defence to attack via their wing-backs.
Josh Windass has been their best player and most potent forward, scoring 14 goals in 40 appearances in the Championship this term and three of Wrexham’s last five, so he will be the main focal point of Middlesbrough’s game plan.
Boro can press their claims
Hellberg’s side look like much better value at 7/5 than the home side here, however, given they sit fourth in the Championship with 79 points from 45 games and are still very much in the promotion race.
The visitors are on a roll at the moment too, winning two and drawing two of their last five and winning their last two league games - against Watford (5-1) and Sheffield Wednesday (1-0), both at home.
Boro have drawn their last two away from home, however, so it is anyone’s guess as to whether Kim Hellberg’s high-pressing, possession-based system will work on Saturday at the opposition’s ground.
Big game for both clubs
Whatever the case, we are sure that the game will feature plenty of goalmouth action as Boro will be looking to make a statement with their promotion push in full swing and Wrexham will be desperate to prove their own Championship credentials.
Middlesbrough’s Morgan Whittaker has been Hellberg’s best striker this term with 14 goals in 39 league appearances, scoring some crucial goals and consistently delivering in key moments.
Wrexham and Boro are two of the more positive teams in the league right now, with Tommy Conway bagging four of their last ten goals and hitting a purple patch in the last five, so Over 2.5 goals at 18/25 and Both Teams to Score at 14/25 should both be backed with confidence. This has the feel of a competitive contest, however, which could go either way, with Boro edging it due to their pressing game and much better recent form.
