Klopp on Tuchel criticism

I watched that and just felt embarrassed for them, it had that horrible sinking feeling where you know the other side are going to keep turning the screw and nobody is calming it down, proper nightmare
 
There is room for both criticism and context here. Tuchel may have been too conservative, but the players also looked unable to keep the ball.
 
What annoys me is how quickly people flatten every football debate into one neat answer. Yes, managers get judged unfairly, yes the media loves a scapegoat, yes the players have to take some responsibility, but that does not mean the actual decisions were good. If you are going to go defensive you need a shape, you need discipline, you need an outlet, and you need the players buying into it for more than a few minutes. Instead it looked frantic, then passive, then even more frantic, and everybody was standing around waiting for someone else to fix it, which is exactly why fans lose their heads because it feels like the team are just drifting into disaster and nobody on the touchline is slamming the brakes on or changing the picture and it becomes this horrible slow motion car crash where you can already hear the excuses coming before the final whistle and honestly it does your head in
 
Everyone keeps talking like this is some grand tactical mystery when it was basically just a team sitting too deep, not keeping the ball, not giving themselves an out ball, and then acting surprised when the pressure kept coming, and the worst part is people are still trying to separate the manager from the players as if one doesnt feed into the other, because if the instructions are to drop off and the players do it badly then thats still a coaching problem, if the players ignore the shape then thats still a leadership problem, and if both happen at once then you get exactly this mess where every clearance comes straight back, every pass is rushed, and the whole thing turns into a long miserable evening of watching the same mistake on repeat and then hearing everyone on TV explain it away like it was inevitable, absolute nonsense
 
The officials always get a pass in these debates and I do not get it, because once the game starts tilting and the pressure builds the referee and assistants suddenly become invisible until they need to make a call that changes the mood, then everyone is told to stop moaning and just accept it, which is rubbish, the tempo of these games matters and when one side is allowed to foul, slow it down, or constantly reset without any real consequence it completely changes how the tactical picture looks, so people can rant about Tuchel all they want but the match control from the officials is part of the story too and it is never discussed properly, they just let it drift, let frustration build, then act shocked when the whole thing gets messy and emotional and by then the damage is done and everyone is screaming at the manager instead of the people in the middle who let it become chaos in the first place
 
Klopp is right that people love an easy villain, but the performance still deserved criticism. The problem was less bravery and more that the team never looked settled or in control imo
 
nah youre giving them too much credit there, it wasnt some brave tactical masterplan gone wrong it was just flat out poor and the players didnt help either
 
On paper there is a reasonable argument that you do not want to overreact to one bad tactical call, because managers are often judged on outcomes that players can influence heavily. But when a side repeatedly drops deeper, loses all control, and still leaves gaps everywhere, the debate stops being abstract and becomes about what was actually coached into them. That is why people are so angry, because it looked like they had no idea how to respond once the momentum shifted, and then the whole thing snowballed into complete chaos and now everyone is picking sides like it was some masterclass or some conspiracy and honestly it just feels like a total mess from top to bottom
