- Bayern Munich have a 100% record at home in the Champions League this season (3 games played).
- Union St-Gilloise have fared better than expected away from home in Europe, winning 2 and losing 1 of their 3 away fixtures.
Allianz Arena is Bayern’s castle
Bayern Munich are heavy favourites at 1.1 to take the points from their home game against Union St.-Gilloise in the UEFA Champions League 2025-2026 on Wednesday, and rightly so.
With 15 points from six games, the Bavarian giants occupy second place in the competition, while Union sit 27th with just six points on the board.
Vincent Kompany’s side are a possession-dominant team, but they can make just as much damage with a high-pressing game if needed, while their ability to transition from defence to attack is lightning quick when they have the ball. Harry Kane is Bayern’s talisman in Europe, having scored 5 goals in 6 Champions League appearances, but Jamal Musiala’s ability to play through the lines and Leroy Sané’s pace and vision make them just as dangerous.
Union are capable of frustrating the home team
David Hubert’s Union side are a compact, disciplined team with a pragmatic style of play.
The Belgian side have been a tough, organised team to get at since taking charge in October 2025.
Their style of football is to play a deep, compact shape and frustrate teams before transitioning quickly and using their energy and width to hurt the opposition on the counter-attack or with set-pieces. While this may be a classic case of possession vs transition, it will be a fascinating tactical battle between two clubs with very different approaches.
Bayern are the clear favourites
Union are a long way off Bayern Munich in terms of investment in the squad and the structural changes that Kompany has made since taking over in May 2024.
His side are blistering hot at the moment, having won five straight games in all competitions. Their last three games have included an 8-1 hammering of Wolfsburg at the Allianz Arena, a 3-1 win at Koln and a 5-1 thrashing of RB Leipzig away in the Bundesliga.
Union are unbeaten in two away games, but have drawn both of those. They also beat KV Mechelen 1-0 in the league at the weekend, which suggests they can be a threat. With Anan Khalaili on two goals in the Champions League and the ever-dangerous Promise David having scored three of Union’s last seven, they do pose a threat.
But we’re going to take Bayern Munich to win this one without too much fuss. The home side are overwhelming favourites for a reason and we’ll take them to come out on top. Over 2.5 goals, at around 1.25, is a tempting alternative to the odds-on price given Bayern’s goal-scoring prowess and Union’s average of 1.67 goals scored and 1.33 conceded away from home in the Champions League this year.
