Auckland in the driving seat
Auckland FC have had a poor start to the season, recording two wins, one draw and two defeats in their last five games. The Black Knights suffered a 5-2 defeat away to Western Sydney Wanderers before picking up a hard-earned 1-1 draw against Brisbane Roar earlier today.
Pedro Moreira has led the Auckland FC since 30 July 2026 and appears to be developing a more flexible, possession-based version of their aggressive attacking style.
Lachlan Bayliss is one of their few positives so far in the season with two goals in the last five, two of their five goals scored in that run.
Wellington’s form is much better
Chris Greenacre has led The Nix since 23 February 2026, bringing organisation, work-rate and bravery to a Wellington side that are built around a proactive press. They're playing great football so far, with four wins and one defeat in their last five matches and a run of three consecutive victories coming into this game. Their form line reads much better than that of their opponents here, but a 2-1 win over Melbourne Victory, 2-0 win over Central Coast Mariners and 3-0 away win at Newcastle United Jets isn't quite as convincing as that of their hosts. Corban Piper has given them a sharp edge up front, scoring two of their six goals in the last five.
An Auckland edge
Auckland look a bit too good here for the draw and Wellington's price of 3.2 is just too big to get on, but the odds also make the Black Knights a slight favourite at 2.1, which seems too generous given that the draw is 3.55.
The head-to-head record is all Auckland, with The Nix without a win in their last five against the home side. They haven't beaten the home side in this fixture, which was a 5-0 pasting in a clash played eight months ago.
I'd steer clear of the Both Teams to Score - No bet at 2.15, but the clash of tempos and the fact that The Nix are league leaders could make this a lively derby. Still, I'm siding with the favourites to edge this one, but not by much.
