- Elche are winless at home and have been beaten three times at home in LaLiga 2026/2027.
- Celta de Vigo are unbeaten in three road games in LaLiga 2026/2027 but have yet to win.
- Celta de Vigo are averaging just 0.33 goals per game away from home in this division.
Elche and Celta de Vigo should play out a close match
With Elche and Celta de Vigo sitting 18th and 14th respectively in the LaLiga 2026/2027 table after seven games, it appears that both clubs have been in the relegation dogfight early on. Elche have taken just five points from their seven matches so far, whereas Celta de Vigo have seven on the board.
Elche have looked slightly better in recent weeks, but there has still been little flow to their play and coach Martín Anselmi, who has been at the helm since 1 July 2026, has struggled to make his team tick. Tete Morente has been providing the assist spark for the Franjiverdes with three in his last five appearances, but Fer Niño has been their main man with five goals in seven LaLiga 2026/2027 appearances.
Celta de Vigo boss Claudio Giráldez has been in the job since 13 March 2024, but Los Celestes have still not quite got over the line this season. After a 1-0 away defeat to Omonia FC Nicosia in the UEFA Europa League, Giráldez's men bounced back with a 5-0 home win over Racing Santander in their most recent LaLiga 2026/2027 game.
Styles do clash in Spain
Celta have the feel of a team that can win in clusters and will probably win more than they lose this season. Elche are in a constant battle for survival and will do well to stay in the division, so their styles do seem to clash here with Elche wanting to set up shop and play their positional-play, build-from-the-back system while Celta are looking to play on the break and hit the visitors with the occasional asymmetrical attack.
Anselmi's side are unlikely to win as the momentum is with Celta, who beat Elche 3-1 at home in this fixture in the previous campaign. Celta have won three of the last four meetings between the clubs with no draws in that time, so there's a good chance the visitors can take the points on Sunday.
Celta are 2.54 favourites to beat Elche here, however, so it makes more sense to side with the underdog for the draw at 3.2 or maybe a 1-1 draw at 3.2. Both teams to score is just 1.75, which makes it seem like the market is expecting goals at both ends of the field in this clash when, really, the evidence would suggest a close and tense contest is more likely.
Goals may be sparse at Estadio Martínez Valero
Aside from that, the odds of the away win are not quite high enough for our liking and there are many variables to consider in this matchup at the Estadio Martinez Valero on Sunday.
Celta have only scored one away goal in three LaLiga 2026/2027 trips and Pablo Duran has already scored two goals this season. He is Celta's biggest scoring threat with two in five LaLiga 2026/2027 appearances and they will need more from the ex-Real Oviedo marksman here.
The draw looks the safest play and under 2.5 goals at 1.8 is a solid alternative as we don't see Celta tearing Elche to pieces. The hosts have been better in their last three, drawing 1-1 at Athletic Bilbao, losing 2-3 at home to Real Madrid and then beating Espanyol 3-1 away, so there is fight in the tank.
