- Borussia Dortmund are second in the Bundesliga table on 67 points after 32 games, showing strong league consistency.
- Dortmund’s home record in the Bundesliga reads: W12, D2, L2 from 16 games in 2025-2026.
- Eintracht Frankfurt are eighth in the Bundesliga on 43 points after 32 matches, reflecting a mid-table campaign.
BVB are a different beast under Niko Kovac
Borussia Dortmund host Eintracht Frankfurt in a late-season Bundesliga clash at Signal Iduna Park that will have implications for the European qualification race on Friday. BVB are having a decent season by their own high standards - currently second in the table on 67 points after 32 fixtures - and have been solid rather than spectacular under Niko Kovac, who took over in February 2025.
His 3-4-2-1 system brings a level of discipline and organisation to a club that has previously played with the handbrake off. Dortmund have been formidable at home this season, winning 12 of 16 games, drawing two and losing only two.
The last head-to-head in the Bundesliga - three months ago - finished 3-3 with goals coming at both ends in a thrilling game at the Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt. Dortmund’s form has been mixed in the past five with two wins and three defeats, but their record at Signal Iduna Park in the Bundesliga is W1, L1 in their two games there.
They beat Freiburg 4-0 at home on the weekend before suffering back-to-back away defeats at Hoffenheim and Moenchengladbach.
Frankfurt are having a mid-table season
Eintracht Frankfurt, under Albert Riera since February 2026, have had a decent, if unspectacular, season and appear to be heading for a mid-table finish. The Catalans have brought structure and tactical flexibility to their play with a possession-driven, positional system that emphasizes high pressing, although they are sometimes caught out when over-committing in transition.
Frankfurt are a possession-based side with a clever approach to creating positional overloads and they are relentless in their pressing game - but can be susceptible when caught out on the break. Mario Götze provides a great sense of calm and vision in the transition games, but they lack the kind of explosive pace and power in the final third that Dortmund possess.
Frankfurt’s recent form has been poor with only one win in their last five Bundesliga games (W1, D2, L2), and their two most recent matches were a 1-1 away draw at Augsburg and a 1-2 home defeat to Hamburg.
Back both teams to score
Borussia Dortmund are the outstanding favourites for this game at 11/20, but with Frankfurt’s attacking output on the road, it is worth taking the odds-on price for both teams to score.
Over 2.5 goals seems like a safe bet here, given that both sides will want to make a statement in terms of their European aspirations and end-of-season form, with 37 and 30 goals being scored by Dortmund and Frankfurt respectively in 16 home and 16 away games.
Serhou Guirassy, with 15 Bundesliga goals in 31 games, is Dortmund’s top scorer while Jonathan Burkardt leads the Frankfurt charts with 10 in 20 appearances.
Both managers have interesting three-at-the-back systems and there should be plenty of space for wing-backs and half-space movements in what will almost certainly be an end-to-end clash. Brandt’s creativity and ability to unlock defences with a piece of magic will be the key to Dortmund’s build-up play, while Serhou Guirassy’s power and strength should give them a goal threat all night.
