Tactical clash should lead to goals and drama at Brighton
Arsenal Women will be a severe test of Brighton & Hove Albion’s progress under Dario Vidosic in what should be an end-to-end game on Wednesday.
Vidosic, who has been in charge of the Seagulls since July 2024, has instilled an adaptive, possession-first philosophy on the club that is constantly changing shape to exploit their opposition’s weaknesses and create dangerous moments in the final third.
Arsenal’s high-pressing system under Renée Slegers, in contrast, is a more structured and disciplined approach that has created a side that is incredibly comfortable defending in blocks while attacking at pace and in transition.
They’ve been in scintillating form since the Dutch coach took over in October 2024 and recently followed up a 2-1 win over Olympique Lyonnais Women in the Champions League with a 7-0 trouncing of Leicester Women in the WSL.
But they failed to match that performance when they travelled to Lyon most recently, losing 3-1, and we expect a tough test in Brighton where the Seagulls have won four, drawn two and lost only three of their 9 home league games, scoring an average of 1.67 per game.
Slegers’ side have the edge in firepower and away record
Arsenal have the superior league record and away stats to suggest they will win this one, while Brighton’s recent run of results has been built upon the form of Madison Haley, who has scored three goals in their last five and helped them to a 3-2 win at home to Manchester City Women and a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Manchester United Women.
But Arsenal will test them much more than either of those opponents and, although the hosts may have been the best team on the day when they beat them 2-0 away in the FA Cup Women 2025/2026 three weeks ago, Arsenal should have the quality and confidence to win this.
A 3-1 away win holds some appeal given the Gunners’ superior firepower and the fact the visitors have already failed to get a result in their last two on the road.
Seike can strike again for Brighton
Stina Blackstenius is Arsenal’s most prolific attacker with 10 goals in 16 league games, and remains a player to watch, while Kiko Seike can keep the scoresheet ticking over for the hosts with her 8 in 18 for the league’s sixth-placed side.
