- Chelsea have won six, drawn five, and lost three of their 14 home games in the 2025/2026 Premier League.
- Newcastle have won three, drawn four, and lost seven of their 14 away games in the 2025/2026 Premier League, scoring 1.00 and conceding 1.36 goals per game.
- The last five meetings between these sides in the Premier League have produced two wins apiece with one draw (Chelsea have not lost their last two home games against Newcastle).
Fireworks expected at Stamford Bridge
This Saturday’s Premier League meeting between Chelsea in fifth and Newcastle in 12th could be an end-to-end cracker as two very different tactical approaches meet in an important clash at the business end of the season.
Liam Rosenior has done a fine job since taking charge of Chelsea in January 2026, quickly implementing a system that plays on his team’s strengths in possession football while also allowing for a tactical flexibility that is almost unprecedented in Premier League football.
Rosenior’s blueprint is built on central overloads, integrating the young stars that are coming through, and an intelligent situational pressing system that could make the Blues as adaptable and dangerous as any team in the world if all goes well.
Newcastle, on the other hand, have been playing the same style of football under Eddie Howe since he took charge in 2021 - a high-intensity pressing system, built on rapid vertical transitions with a disciplined structure in possession.
It has served Howe well in the Premier League, but it has its limitations and a game against Chelsea could see both sides’ weaknesses exposed. The visitors could get a lot of joy on the counter, particularly through their wide forwards and attacking full-backs, but may be unable to hold out against Chelsea’s adaptability.
Blues can see off Toon in tough test
The hosts are favourites to win, but I’m leaning towards the ‘Both Teams to Score - Yes’ bet at 23/50 rather than backing Chelsea at 43/50 due to their failure to kill off games at Stamford Bridge of late - they’ve drawn their last two at home - and Newcastle’s threat on the break.
Newcastle lost their previous league fixture 3-2 in a thriller at home to Everton, while Chelsea drew 1-1 with Burnley at Stamford Bridge before losing 2-1 at Arsenal and then hammering Aston Villa 4-1 away from home.
These two sides have split the last five meetings in the Premier League and, with Chelsea chasing European qualification and both managers having their own tactical blueprints, there’s a real chance we’ll see some fireworks on Saturday.
Cole Palmer has been on fire for Chelsea of late, having scored five of his team’s ten goals in their last five games, while Joao Pedro has been Chelsea’s most prolific goal-getter this season, netting 14 times in 29 Premier League appearances.
Meanwhile, Bruno Guimaraes leads the way in the Newcastle ranks, scoring nine times in 23 league appearances, usually from deep in midfield as he sets the tempo for Newcastle’s attacks.
