- Barcelona have beaten Bayern in four of the last five competitive meetings including a 7-1 win in October 2025
- The match-day programmes say this semi-final is level at 1-1, but Barca’s quality and home advantage should see them edge a close game and into a sixth successive UWCL final
- Barcelona are without Aitana Bonmatí and Laia Aleixandri (both long-term injuries) while Bayern should be at near full strength
Barcelona at home are still the best in the world
Bayern have improved greatly since their 7-1 rout in Barcelona last October, but they still look unable to get the better of FC Barcelona (W) in their recent UEFA Women’s Champions League meetings. The first leg of this semi-final finished 1-1 in Munich and the tie remains finely balanced going into Sunday’s return clash at Camp Nou.
Barca are still the favourites to win the match at 1/10, which is right and correct, but there are reasons to believe Bayern could stay in the tie, if not win it. Barca have clearly improved, while Bayern’s new coach José Barcala has had a marked impact on the players since he arrived in 2025.
Franziska Kett scored Bayern’s equaliser in the first leg, but will be under pressure to perform after receiving a late red card in Munich. Barca’s 4-3-3 system remains very fluid and it is still a high-press, possession-dominant identity that has been maintained by coach Pere Romeu as he has integrated youth and a bit more tactical flexibility.
Klara Bühl is key to Bayern’s plan
Bayern are a much more pragmatic and aggressive club since Barcala took over in 2025, when they were one of the most easy-going clubs in the UWCL. He has tightened them up defensively and improved their transitional play so that they can hurt Barca if they get the game plan right.
Klara Bühl’s direct running and ability to play on the transitions earned her the Player of the Match award in last week’s semi-final first-leg and she will be a key weapon on Bayern’s right flank at Camp Nou.
Pernille Harder is the heartbeat of Bayern’s play and she scored a brace at Old Trafford to help them get a result in the UWCL. Barca are a better side, of course, but Bayern’s grit and belief will be a factor in this game and Bayern are unbeaten in five, winning three and drawing two since that October thrashing in Catalonia.
Barca’s home advantage is huge
The reigning Liga F champions finished the season in style, winning four of their last five games and scored 6-0 and 6-2 in their quarter-final legs against Real Madrid. They thumped the Spanish champions 6-0 at home and 6-2 away to book a place in the last four.
Ewa Pajor is a genuine UWCL top-scorer contender with eight goals so far this season, including Barca’s opener in Munich, while Caroline Graham Hansen is a constant threat out wide. Hansen notched a brace against Real last time out.
Bayern have a lot of quality, but we feel Barcelona’s extra class and home advantage will see them through to a sixth consecutive UWCL final. This will be a hard-fought game with a sell-out Camp Nou giving them a raucous home support, so we’re siding with Barca to win a game in which Bayern will be compact and disciplined.
Barca can still break down a compact defence
Alexia Putellas remains Barca’s maestro in the middle of the park and can do anything from anywhere at any time, and she scored in her 500th appearance for the club. Backing Over 2.5 goals (6/25) looks a good option here as Bayern will park the bus and hit on the break and Barca have the firepower to break through even the most stubborn defences.
