Tight game likely in Brittany
Lorient will be favourites for Saturday's Ligue 1 2026-2027 clash with ES Troyes AC at Stade du Moustoir, but the odds on offer don't really reflect the true picture as the visitors are in superb form and equally hard to beat.
Les Merlus are 6th in the table on one point from one game with Troyes also on one and sitting just one spot lower in 9th, so it's still a little too early to tell exactly where each team will end up in this season's final standings. The bookies have been slow to react to the visitors' unbeaten streak, however, with Lorient around the 33/25 mark, ahead of Les Troyens' 9/4 and the 261/100 draw.
The draw looks too high and we wouldn't advise any punter to back Troyes at 9/4 as they have failed to win in either of their previous two away games against Lorient, so we'll just stick with the hosts here. However, this is likely to be a cagey game and we recommend a sensible alternative angle with under 2.5 goals.
Lorient will pack the defence
Lorient have won two, drawn one and lost two of their last five games, but it's not a bad result to open Ligue 1 2026/2027 with a 0-0 draw away at Nice.
Alexandre Dujeux will be working on Lorient's organisation and structure, so expect a compact block with quick transitions and measured pressing to suffocate the opposition when they get the ball. Troyes are a slightly more progressive side, with Stephane Dumont's side setting up in a 4-4-2 system with high pressing lines, plenty of tempo and two forwards ready to pounce on a turnover.
Lorient have dominated this fixture in recent years and have won all three of the head-to-heads since Troyes' relegation to Ligue 2 2024/2025. But Troyes come into this unbeaten in five (W2, D3) and have been drawing three in a row. That includes a 0-0 stalemate at home to Paris FC in their first Ligue 1 2026/2027 game. They have also won and drawn their previous two away fixtures (L0), so Les Merlus are not guaranteed a win on Saturday.
