Trotters too strong in early-season form
Bolton Wanderers U21 will look to further their early-season dominance of the Professional Development League when they travel to play Hull City U21 at Dransfield Stadium on Tuesday.
The Trotters have begun the 2026-2027 campaign with a series of emphatic displays to place them at or near the summit of the PDL table, while Hull are somewhere around the bottom end of it after a sluggish start to the season.
Hull City U21 will undoubtedly look to slow this game down in the hopes of creating a counter-attacking option for themselves, but Bolton Wanderers U21 have proven themselves to be a much sharper side than the Tigers in transition, making the visitors the likelier winners of this clash.
Bolton have the speed to hurt Hull
Conor Sellars has his U21's focused on technical improvement and building from the back, and we're not going to see much from them without spells of structured possession.
However, Julian Darby's Bolton U21 play with tempo and aggression, and their pressing game has translated into a quick-flowing style of play that has allowed them to dominate games like last month's 7-0 win over Colchester U21 and 3-0 win at Millwall U21.
The Trotters have the pace and energy to stretch Hull's back four, and we'll swerve the draw at 74/25 and Hull's 8/5 quote to back the visitors at 53/50.
Hull have goals in them, but so do Bolton
Hull's 3-3 draw with QPR U21, 0-2 loss to Swansea U21 and 1-4 defeat to Bristol City U21 have been a mixed bag of results for The Tigers, but they have shown some signs of life in the final third.
Ramell Carter and Kieran Wilson have brought some young energy to a front line that has been shared out among many of the Academy's most promising prospects, while Josh Ocaya has made the most of his recent minutes in PDL action to become one of the most dangerous players in the squad.
D. Lawrence has been the sharpest out of Bolton's attacking players, as he did when he opened the scoring and combined well to help his side to a 3-1 win over QPR U21, but Toby Ritchie's addition to the front line adds another live wire to a side already loaded with attacking players.
The game of the week on paper
This is a classic style clash between a side that likes to keep the ball and another that likes to break with numbers, and while the odds suggest Bolton will win, they also suggest the home side will find a goal or two.
Both Teams to Score - Yes is 7/25 and Over 2.5 Goals is 13/50 in this PDL game, but we think the sharper side will score more of the goals and a 2-0 or 3-1 away win is more likely than the draw.
