- Tottenham have failed to win any of their last three competitive away H2H matches.
- Liverpool have won three of the last five H2H encounters in all competitions (D1, L1).
- Tottenham have won four, drawn four and lost two of their last ten matches in all competitions.
Anfield clash should be spicy
A cup tie between two of the more progressive sides in world football should be a tasty affair, and that's exactly what we expect when Liverpool and Tottenham meet at Anfield on Tuesday.
The Reds are playing some exciting and aggressive counter-pressing football under Andoni Iraola and they're much more comfortable playing a high-tempo, vertical style in which they can transition into attack quickly when turnovers come.
Spurs have had a possession-heavy philosophy under Roberto De Zerbi and are a side who are happy to bait pressure and allow opponents to come onto them before moving the ball between the lines and unleashing a sharp attack.
Another draw could be on the cards
So this could be a clash of the styles and it may well be a chess match in which the first move is to press and the transition phase is the key period. Liverpool are the odds-on favourites at 37/50 with Spurs in the middle at 31/10 and the draw at 3/1, so the value bet is probably the away side.
Tottenham's recent form is mixed, with a 5-1 drubbing of Charlton Athletic coming in the EFL Cup after a 0-2 defeat at home to Newcastle in the Premier League 2026/2027 and a 0-0 draw away at Nottingham Forest.
Liverpool are unbeaten in their last two, with a 2-2 draw at Newcastle and a 2-2 stalemate with Nottingham Forest at home before they beat Ipswich Town 2-0 away from home on the weekend in the league.
Spurs can keep it tight
The Reds have won three of their seven home games across all competitions (D2, L2) and scored 14 goals at an average of 2.00 per-match, so we expect them to be positive in this cup clash.
However, Spurs have won two, drawn one and lost one on their travels and have scored four in their four away matches, so they don't travel that well but are not exactly being battered away from home.
Backing Over 2.5 goals at 1/2 and Both Teams To Score - Yes at 12/25 could be the way to go in the alternatives market, but we're sticking with Liverpool to edge out a narrow and exciting victory in this clash. The last meeting came in the 2025/2026 Premier League season in a 1-1 home draw for Liverpool and we can see that being the case once again.
