With Manchester City (W) top of the table and their fierce rivals Manchester United (W) sitting just below them in second, Saturday’s all-Manchester derby isn’t just a matter of local pride and one-upmanship, but also a clash of titans with serious implications for the final league standings and European qualification.
Andrée Jeglertz has made her mark since taking over as Manchester City (W) manager in August 2025, instilling a system which emphasises width, high pressing, and set-piece focus. City favour a back three with two attacking wingbacks, while they have the technical ability and intelligence to dictate possession when in form, and their high-line allows them to quickly counterattack.
On the other hand, Marc Skinner has overseen the development of an attacking system since coming to the helm of Manchester United Women in July 2021. Skinner’s system is highly adaptable and places plenty of importance on player rotation amongst the front three and on proactive pressing in the opposition half. Khadija Shaw has been on fire for Manchester City Women this season, notching up a league-leading 18 goals in 18 appearances. Shaw is a constant threat, but Manchester United Women have their own sharp shooter in Elisabeth Terland, who has bagged 6 goals in 17 league appearances this term. With both sides keen to get the better of each other, we’re expecting a high-scoring match.
