An even match and plenty of goals
On 22 June 2025, Martin Paterson took the reigns at Notts County and set about implementing a new system that would make his side very tough to break down. His 3-4-2-1 is a very compact and vertical system with the number 10's sitting in behind the striker and the two wing-backs providing width. It can catch teams out if they over-commit, and they can punish teams on the break with their counter attacking runs and wing-backs. Peterborough United set up in a 4-2-3-1 system and prefer to play on the front foot, they will look to pressure County and pin them back in their own half, before trying to catch them on the counter-attack.
The Magpies have three draws and a loss in their four away matches in League One 2026/2027 - they've been tough to beat but haven't won enough, and the same could be said for their hosts, who have one win, one draw and two defeats in the same competition at home. Both teams have been in a little bit of mixed form, Posh have won two, drawn one and lost two in their last five matches in all competitions, whereas County have won one, drawn two and lost two in theirs.
The last meeting between the two sides came in the FA Cup 2024/2025 where Peterborough won a seven goal thriller 4-3 at home, the Magpies have since been playing in League One. Ryan Harley has been Posh boss since 20 September 2026, and has yet to see his team turn the possession into enough goals to win games. Ben Woods is the main threat, he has scored two goals in six League One appearances, whereas Notts County's danger man has three goals to his name in seven League One games - he has also scored three of his County's last four goals.
The Posh to nick it
Peterborough come into this one as a slight favourite and I do agree that they will come out on top on Saturday, albeit with it being a tight and tense game. Over 2.5 goals at 7/10 and both teams to score at 11/20 are both very appealing, and they suggest this is going to be a rip-roaring affair. I am going for a 2-1 win for the hosts, as they have the home advantage and need a lift more than their visitors.
