- Shamrock have won three of their last five games (D1, L1) and have only one win in their last three against Sligo.
- Sligo have won only one of their last five matches (L3, D1) and have failed to win either of their last two home H2Hs in the PD 2026.
- Shamrock have conceded just 1.00 goal per away game in the PD 2026, while Sligo have let in 1.60 per game at home.
Sligo are in a spin and need a new strategy
Shamrock Rovers (1st, 47pts from 24 games) are a long way from Sligo Rovers (9th, 19pts from 21) in the Premier Division 2026 standings, so it's no surprise that Stephen Bradley's men are favourites at 31/50 for this Friday's meeting, while John Russell's side are the 433/100 outsiders.
Sligo are in bad shape, having won just one of their last five (L3, D1) and are currently on a run of three straight defeats coming into this. They've been outplayed by Waterford (4-0) on the road.
Sligo's 4-2-3-1 has kept them in the game for much of the season, but the lack of cutting edge up top is finally being felt. William Fitzgerald is the team's top-scorer in the PD 2026 with just three goals in 21 games, so it's no wonder that they've been left chasing shadows.
Sligo can sting, but Shamrock have the sting in the tail
Shamrock's last three results have seen them win away at Waterford, draw 0-0 at home with Derry City and then beat Galway United 3-1 at Tallaght Stadium. Adam Brennan has provided three assists in his last five appearances, but it's the manner of Shamrock's victories which are worth noting here.
Bradley's side are the division's standard-setters, but they have been able to keep ticking over in recent weeks thanks to their proactive pressing game and intelligent use of possession. This is a clash of styles and Sligo will look to sit deep, close off the wings and break quickly, while Shamrock will look to stretch them with their wing-backs and overload the box.
Shamrock's PD 2026 away record of 5-3-4 in 12 games suggests that they will have the bit between their teeth going into this clash, while Sligo's home record of 3-2-5 in ten games shows that they can be rattled at the Showgrounds.
Stick with the visitors
Sligo may have won the most recent H2H in this fixture, but we're sticking with Shamrock to take this one. The Hoops have the momentum, Sligo are in free fall and the visitors have the better all-round quality. A Shamrock win with under 3.5 goals is our selection for small stakes as the Hoops may have to fight to get their noses in front against a decent Sligo outfit.
Graham Burke is Shamrock's top-scorer this season with seven in 21 in the PD 2026 and he looks the most likely player to score a goal at any time against Sligo on Friday.
