Lincoln can pip a gritty Stevenage
Lincoln City should have too much class for Stevenage Borough when the league leaders and a sixth-placed team in League One face off on Saturday afternoon.
The League One 2025-2026 table tells the tale with the Imps on 93 points from 42 games and the Lame Ducks sixth on 67 from 41 games.
Lincoln City are in better form, too, coming into this clash on the back of a four-match winning run that saw them beat Leyton Orient 2-1 last time out.
Stevenage have responded well to the appointment of Alex Revell as head coach in April 2024 by putting together some excellent results and looking defensively solid as a team. Revell has got his players playing with a compact defensive block and counter-attacking at speed through the middle, which suits his own playing profile and has given them an edge.
Defensive discipline and transition play will be crucial
This fixture will be a real test of how well the head coaches have drilled their teams and their respective abilities to remain disciplined and stay in the contest. Stevenage have been very solid at home in League One 2025-2026, winning 12, drawing six and losing just two, and will make it tough for the Imps to create many chances.
Lincoln are a disciplined, high-pressing team under Michael Skubala, who has been at the helm since November 2023, and have a good set-piece routine too. They are in the habit of grinding out games and scoring goals and have been very good on the road this season with 11 wins, five draws and four losses from 20 matches.
Lots of goals at both ends in this League One clash
Both teams will be desperate to claim the three points and make it an extremely competitive game, but there should be enough quality on show for both to get on the scoresheet at some point. Stevenage are averaging 1.15 goals per home game in League One 2025-2026 and have conceded just 0.55 per home game, while Lincoln are averaging 1.50 on the road.
The Lame Ducks are scoring goals in bunches and Jamie Reid is their key man with 13 in 39 league games. But Dan Kemp has been on fire of late and he has two of their last three. Lincoln’s best goal scorer Jack Moylan has ten in 27 and his goals could be the difference in this clash.
The away side are the favourites at 131/100 to win this one and we’ll take them to come out on top in what should be a tight contest. When Stevenage have hosted Lincoln, the average number of goals has been 0.5 per side so this shouldn’t be a goal-fest.
