Owls have the edge at the Lamex
Boro have produced a mixed bag of results over the past month or so, with a 5-1 win at Barnsley and a 2-1 victory over Luton Town being followed by a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Leyton Orient. Boro are 11th in League One 2026/2027 after seven matches, having picked up nine points from a possible 21, while The Owls are second with 14 points from their opening seven.
Stevenage are undefeated in their last two games at home (W1, D1), so they may be growing in confidence, but Wednesday are a tough nut to crack on their travels at the moment and the visitors should have enough quality to nick a win on Saturday.
Henrik Pedersen's team are playing a proactive, narrow pressing game at the moment, with aggressive recovery triggers and fast transitions. If The Owls win the second balls, their higher intensity and more acute wide support should force Stevenage back into their own half and make it difficult for Boro to break out into the space in behind.
Boro will look to counter attack
Alex Revell's side set up in a more pragmatic manner, they will try and bait Wednesday into pressing them, then break quickly into the spaces in front of them. Boro are averaging 1.67 goals per home game in League One 2026/2027 so there is enough evidence to suggest they can land a punch of their own in front of their own fans on Saturday.
Jamal Lowe is Wednesday's danger man with four League One goals in seven games, three of which have come in their last ten. Dan Kemp is Boro's spark in the advanced areas, with three goals in his seven appearances in League One and three of Boro's seven goals in their last five matches.
Wednesday to edge it
These two sides have been involved in some tight contests this season and we're likely to see another close battle at the Lamex on Saturday. However, Wednesday have a better overall record than Boro in the league this term, so an away win or Sheffield Wednesday double chance looks the cleanest angle in this one if the game sticks to the form book.
Odds of 29/20 for the visitors are slightly on the short side, with Boro coming in at 8/5 and the draw at 23/10, but we're happy to take the price available on the double chance market.
