- Barcelona have won four of the last five LaLiga meetings against Atletico Madrid with no draws
- Barcelona have won their last five matches in LaLiga with no defeats
- Barcelona have averaged 2.21 goals per game in their 14 away LaLiga matches, scoring 31 times in total
Fireworks expected in Madrid clash of styles
Hans-Dieter Flick has taken Barcelona to a new level of verticality in their build-up play that has not only seen them to the top of the LaLiga 2025-2026 table, but has made them the most exciting team in the world to watch right now.
Flick’s players have total mastery of the ball with which they can hurt opponents in the blink of an eye. They combine long, sharp bursts of possession with some of the highest pressing in Europe and an exhausting pace of play that pins opponents in their own half.
And it is showing in the results, with Barca top of LaLiga with 73 points from 29 games, while Atletico Madrid are fourth with 57. Their last two games were a 5-2 demolition of Sevilla and a 1-0 win over Rayo Vallecano, both at home, and the results of those two matches could hardly have been more different.
Atletico will get chances in transition
Oscar Fernandez has kept Atletico Madrid ticking over since he took over in 2021, although their results have been mixed of late with three wins and two defeats in their last five in LaLiga. Their two most recent home games have ended in victory, with a 3-2 thriller over Real Sociedad at the Wanda Metropolitano, where they have been formidable with 13 wins out of 15 and only 12 goals conceded all season.
That is the sort of record that makes Atletico very difficult to defeat and they will look to use the space behind Barcelona’s high line with some swift counters when they are not sitting deep and compact. Alexander Soerloth, who has 10 LaLiga goals in 28 appearances, is the top scorer in attack for Oscar Fernandez’s side and he can pounce on any chances they get.
Barcelona have won two of the past three meetings between these clubs away from home and know they can win at the Wanda, although they will have to overcome an Atletico side that can be very difficult to beat there. Barca’s odds of 2.16 are a touch short for this matchup, but it should be an entertaining contest that could see them outscore their hosts.
Yamal is the real deal
Lamine Yamal is Barcelona's breakout star and the club's top scorer in LaLiga with 14 goals in 25 games and he should get some joy against Atletico, although both teams will get on the board so Over 2.5 goals is taken at 1.5 and Both Teams to Score - Yes at 1.42.
