- Team form: Barcelona have won two of their last three away LaLiga games against Atletico Madrid
- Home defence: Atletico Madrid have conceded just 12 goals in their 15 home LaLiga games this season
- Away scoring: Barcelona have scored 31 goals in their 14 away LaLiga matches (average 2.21 per game) this season
Flick has Barca on a roll
Barca's form
Hans-Dieter Flick has brought a high-velocity verticality to Barcelona and it is hard to see how Atletico Madrid are going to stop his team on Saturday. Barca have been relentlessly on the up since the former Bayern Munich boss took over, winning all five LaLiga matches since his arrival without a draw or defeat.
They have scored six goals in their last two matches - a 5-2 win over Sevilla and a 1-0 win over Rayo Vallecano - with the 1-0 win narrow. Barca’s pressing game is intense, they play at a blistering pace and they can pin teams deep in their half for sustained periods.
Atletico's approach
Atletico Madrid are a very different proposition. Oscar Fernandez’s men are a pragmatic, defence-first team that sets up in a compact block and tries to catch their opponents out on the counterattack when they can. Barca will come at them for a long time and Atletico have to be ready to pounce when they get the ball.
High tempo clash could spell goals for both teams
The odds for the away win favour the visitors at 2.16, but given Barcelona have won four of the last five LaLiga head-to-head meetings and won 3-0 at Atletico just four weeks ago in the 2025/2026 Copa del Rey, they can probably be considered the favorites.
- Barcelona’s average of 2.21 goals per game on the road this LaLiga season is nothing to write home about, but they do have a breakout star in Lamine Yamal, who leads the club’s scoring in LaLiga with 14 goals in 25 appearances.
- Atletico’s top scorer in the league is Alexander Soerloth with 10 in 28 appearances, but he should get chances to score on Saturday if he can time his runs to catch Barca out on the break.
Los Colchoneros can be relied on at home
Atletico have won three and lost two of their last five in LaLiga and appear to have hit a bit of a rough patch, but they have won their last two at home, the second being a 3-2 thriller against Real Sociedad.
Los Colchoneros are solid at the Wanda Metropolitano, where they have won 13 of their 15 LaLiga contests and conceded only 12 goals.
This is an intriguing tactical battle between two very different managers and clubs, but with Barcelona’s win odds above even money it is probably wiser to look for value elsewhere. Barca will win the game, but Atletico can score against most teams and should get some joy on the breaks against Barca’s bold system.
Over 2.5 goals seems like a safe play at 1.5, while Both Teams to Score - Yes looks good at 1.42. The LaLiga leaders have 73 points from 29 games, Atletico are fourth with 57 points, and Saturday should be a firecracker of a clash.
