- Borussia Dortmund are unbeaten at home in the Champions League 2025/2026 season (W2, D1).
- Inter have 2 wins and 1 loss away from home in the same competition (W2, L1).
Pivotal Group D clash looks evenly matched
A pivotal Champions League 2025/2026 contest could go either way when a Dortmund side that are almost back to their old attacking best face off against a disciplined and pragmatic Inter outfit that can be tough to get the better of.
BVB are on a run of three wins, one draw and one defeat from their last five games in all competitions, after a 2-0 defeat away at Tottenham in their last Champions League game and an impressive 3-0 Bundesliga win at Union Berlin on Saturday.
Inter suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to Arsenal in their most recent UCL match, but got back to winning ways with a 6-2 victory over Pisa in Serie A last weekend. The Italians have three wins, a draw and a loss in their last five, and have solid away form, so they shouldn’t be underestimated in Dortmund.
Dortmund can dominate with their width
The hosts are playing some of their best football of the season under coach Niko Kovač, who has managed to instil discipline in the three at the back while also creating balance and structure in transition since taking over in early 2025.
Dortmund play a 3-4-2-1 system that can get seriously wide with their wing-backs and allows Kovač to create overloads in transition that are simply irresistible when they click. Inter boss Cristian Chivu has done a similar job since his appointment in June, bringing the best out of his team’s players in a hybrid 3-5-2/3-4-2-1 that is compact, well-organised and zonal in approach.
The hosts have a true danger man in Felix Nmecha with three goals in seven Champions League appearances this term, while Lautaro Martinez, who has four goals in six UCL appearances for the Nerazzurri, will always be a threat to any defence.
Inter have two up front to stretch defences and exploit space on the break or at set pieces, which makes the clash of Dortmund’s high-tempo game against Inter’s disciplined structure one to watch.
Inter’s away record is good
Dortmund are averaging 3.33 goals per game scored and only 1.00 conceded at home in the Champions League, so it’s hard to see how this game doesn’t produce a few goals with Dortmund unbeaten at home and almost identical in the standings.
Inter are averaging 2.33 per game on the road in the Champions League and only conceding 0.67 per away fixture, so it’s a tricky one to call, although the slight advantage has to go to the visitors here because they have won two away games.
But Dortmund have 11 points from 7 games in this group and are in great form with two home wins in a row, so it’s difficult to separate the pair and a draw looks the best option in the result markets. However, with both sides capable of creating many chances, the Over 2.5 goals market at 1.7 looks like a great bet to get behind for this encounter.
