- Borussia Dortmund are unbeaten at home in the UEFA Champions League 2025/2026, having won two and drawn one of their three matches to date.
- Inter have won two and lost one of their away fixtures in the Champions League, averaging 2.33 goals per game and conceding just 0.67 per away game.
- Borussia Dortmund average 3.33 goals per home game in the Champions League 2025/2026 and have conceded just 1.00.
Tight encounter expected between two European heavyweights
Borussia Dortmund enter Wednesday’s Group G clash in 16th spot in the UEFA Champions League 2025/2026 standings with 11 points from seven matches, while Inter are two places better off and two points better off with 12 points from the same number of games.
In their last games, Dortmund were beaten 2-0 away to Tottenham in the Champions League before bouncing back with a 3-0 victory at Union Berlin in the Bundesliga. Inter lost 3-1 at home to Arsenal in the last round of Champions League games but returned to form with a 6-2 win over Pisa in Serie A.
Inter, with an away win, are the slight favourites at 33/25 to win against Dortmund who are priced at 48/25 to take the win. The draw seems a little high at 12/5, so backing ‘Over 2.5 goals’ at 7/10 looks a good choice given the nature of the two sides and their results in recent weeks.
Dortmund’s three at the back has brought balance and structure
Niko Kovač has done a brilliant job since taking over as Dortmund boss at the beginning of 2025, implementing a back-three system that brings balance and discipline to his side while allowing his attackers to play at their best.
The wing-backs allow Dortmund to open up the width of the field and they are an incredibly fast side, especially when playing their 3-4-2-1 system in which they can rotate their three forwards and wide midfielders in the final third.
Inter boss Cristian Chivu has had less time in the role but has also implemented a similar hybrid system to his counterpart with a back-three that he can switch between a 3-5-2 and 3-4-2-1 system. Inter keep things tight, using zonal marking, quickly getting men behind the ball when out of possession, and releasing the ball vertically to start counter-attacks.
Lautaro Martinez leads Inter’s line with four goals in six Champions League appearances so far, so he will be a constant threat to the Dortmund defenders. Felix Nmecha is Dortmund’s danger-man in Europe, having netted three times in seven appearances and is a direct threat from midfield.
Inter’s resilience on the road gives them edge
With Dortmund unbeaten at home and Inter solid on the road, a tight clash is expected, but Inter’s slight favourites tag seems more justified given the two teams’ respective form and results. Both teams have won three, drawn one and lost once in their last five in all competitions, and Inter have a win in their only recent away match.
Inter’s compactness and disciplined approach should see them control Dortmund’s width, but the home side’s tempo could be a problem for Inter if the pace of the game is too quick for them.
