- Pachuca have won three and drawn two of their last five league fixtures, winning back-to-back matches over Santos Laguna and Cruz Azul.
- Tijuana have alternated wins and losses in their last five matches, but they’ve beaten top-six teams Tigres UNAM (1-0) and León (3-0 away).
Tijuana and Pachuca meet in a possible playoff play-off
Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente (10th, 18 points from 14 fixtures) still need to collect points to break into the top-eight and keep their Liguilla dreams alive, but Pachuca CF (3rd, 28 points from 14) have been so consistent this Clausura season that they should remain in the top-four, no matter the result here.
This Thursday night’s Liga MX 2025-2026 encounter between the Xolos and Pachuca should be a ripper contest between two teams that are full of positive intent and play at high tempos, albeit with contrasting styles and priorities.
Pachuca are in the driver’s seat of their 2026 Clausura destiny, with a victory here securing the club’s position in the Clausura quarter-finals and a draw all but achieving the same result. If Tijuana were to pull off an upset win, it would be a huge lift to their playoff ambitions and a massive psychological blow to Pachuca.
Osorio’s return has re-invigorated Xolos
Xolos boss Juan Carlos Osorio is back for his second spell at the club and has brought the organisation, rotation and structure that the team needed to be a contender in 2026. His appointment at the start of April has given the club a new lease of life and a late-season surge has put them in the mix.
Tijuana like to set up in a compact, pragmatic shape, pressing selectively, blocking the middle and counterattacking through the ball. When fit, forward Gilberto Mora provides directness and finishing up front, while Mourad adds to their finishing and forward thrust when on the pitch. Kevin Castañeda is the chief creator, top scorer and the playmaker who puts the ball on a plate for Tijuana’s forwards to punish opponents on the counterattack.
Pachuca have a high-intensity, pragmatic approach, 4-2-3-1, which manager Esteban Solari has honed over the course of the Clausura season into a solid defensive system which has seen the side maintain a top-four berth. Victor Guzmán and Oussama Idrissi have provided the width, penetration, assist numbers and attacking play-making to keep the team in the playoff positions, but Salomón Rondón’s hold-up play and scoring power has been vital during their current unbeaten run.
Pachuca have the edge in a tight contest
Kenedy has been the most effective finisher during Pachuca’s unbeaten run in March-April, netting in the back-to-back away wins over Santos and Cruz Azul, while Victor Guzmán and Oussama Idrissi are the main suppliers. Pachuca can also be explosive on the break, but their build-up has been more patient and clinical than Tijuana’s, who can get caught out if the defense is overrun by the visitors’ pace.
Pachuca have the superior form, table position and goal threat to win this match, but Tijuana’s home advantage and volatility can’t be underestimated in this fixture. Both teams to score is the clear choice at 1.61, but we’re taking the slight odds-on favourite to come up trumps in a 2-1 away win or a 1-1 draw. Pachuca will be the more likely to nick a win if the game is end-to-end, as Tijuana can keep clean sheets against the best sides if they are organised, as they were against Tigres. Solari’s side are a bit better than Tijuana, but not good enough to justify the slight favourite’s label, so we’re going for a Pachuca win or draw as the primary wager.
