Leopards can't be underrated
Colombia's start to Group K of the FIFA World Cup in 2026 has been much more impressive than DR Congo's as the Cafeteros enter the second round of fixtures with three points from one game, while the Leopards are on one point.
Nestor Lorenzo has done a great job in blending structure and discipline with vertical attacking transitions since taking over in June 2022 and he has found some nice balance in the side with his 4-2-3-1 formation, where they control the ball and flood wide to overload, but also make vertical runs.
Jhon Arias has scored three goals in Colombia's last five games and Daniel Muñoz opened his account in Group K, so Colombia look good for goals against the Leopards.
Leopards look to counter for openings
Sebastien Desabre has packed DR Congo into a compact, defensively-organised shape since taking over in August of 2022. Arthur Masuaku's clever footwork and vision on the assist to DR Congo's only goal in Group K, was a good example of the quality the defender can bring to the game as an underrated playmaker. Yoane Wissa has been DR Congo's main out-and-out attacking force since Desabre's appointment and he scored their only goal in this tournament so far. The fact he is their main striker makes this an interesting tactical clash of possession football against counter football and we are interested in taking the odds on DR Congo here.
DR Congo to test Colombia's resolve
DR Congo's record of one draw and one goal conceded in one FIFA World Cup 2026 away match, is not an awful start and we are expecting them to sit back and try to keep the game clean and see if they can nick a goal on a counter or set piece.
Colombia are worthy favourites for this match and should have too much quality to avoid breaking down the DR Congo defence at least once for a deserved win, but we will take the odds on 'No' in the 'Both teams to score' market as Colombia are likely to have to earn their victory.
The World Cup return of DR Congo, first appearance since 1974, adds a bit of extra storyline to this encounter and they will surely be scouted by some big clubs for players in this squad.
