- Western Sydney Wanderers II have won four of their last five matches in all competitions, including a 1-0 home win over Illawarra Stingrays and a 2-0 victory over Macarthur.
- Wanderers won 2-1 away to Hills United FC in the only NPL Women's NSW clash between these two clubs this season.
- Hills United have lost their last three matches against APIA (1-4), Sydney University (0-3) and Western Sydney (0-3) and have won only one of their last five outings.
Wanderers will win if they maintain their cool
Western Sydney Wanderers II should not be drawn into a scrap with Hills United in Sunday's NPL New South Wales Women's clash as the visitors are set to dig themselves in and attack quickly on the counterattack. The home side are one of the top teams in this division based on the league table around mid-June 2026 and should justify their short odds to win.
League tables around mid-June 2026 show Wanderers to be firmly in the top three with up to 24 points while Hills are down in the lower third on seven points from nine. A Wanderers win on Sunday would all but confirm that they are contenders for the top-three while an upset for Hills United could help them climb out of the relegation zone.
The two clubs are a study in contrasts with Jamie Dib's side favouring a patient build-up through the midfield, where Amelia Bennett and Allyssa Ng Saad are the key drivers, and then using the width provided by overlapping full-backs and dynamic wingers like Alyssa McKenzie.
Hills' coach Allan Tasses sets his team up in a compact shell and looks to frustrate the opposition until they can burst forward on the break with their pacey forwards. Hills' attack is spearheaded by Erin Tavares, who scored from distance in the March clash, while international-made Madeleine Iro can play anywhere.
Hills have little to show for their hard work
Alyssa McKenzie will be the one that Hills have to keep quiet, but her goal and assist record for Wanderers says she usually comes up trumps. Amy Barker is also a late-game threat after her stoppage-time winner against Illawarra and her three goals from wide areas so far this season. Annabelle Croll has kept several clean sheets in recent weeks while Hills have conceded ten goals in their last four NPLW games.
The bookmakers make Wanderers heavy favourites at 1.56 with Hills being the massive outsiders at 4.56 and the draw sitting in between at 4.15. These prices accurately reflect the quality and momentum of the two sides but it is hard to see a Hills upset happening. Backing the home team to win looks the right play here and we are happy to do that in the draw no bet market for extra security.
As always, it depends on how Hills play it and there is a temptation to go with Both teams to score - No (2.29) in the expectation that the hosts have enough to break the shell while the visitors have scored just once in their last three away matches. A correct score play of 2-0 or 2-1 to Wanderers is also within our selection parameters as they have scored at least twice in each of their four home league wins.
A cool, mostly sunny Sunday is ideal for a high-tempo match between two teams that are at opposite ends of the NSW Women's pyramid. Hills United, as 2025 League One double winners, are still feeling their way in the NPL and that shows in their lack of results, although they are not the worst side at the bottom of the table. Dib's team have A-League Women talent rotating in and that could be the difference in this clash, which is on paper a possession-versus-counter affair.
