- Aston Villa (W) have won their last two WSL meetings with West Ham United (W), winning 2-0 in October 2025.
- Aston Villa (W) are ninth in the WSL on 20 points from 19 games, having scored 27 goals and conceded 41.
- West Ham United (W) are 11th on 16 points from 20 matches, having scored 17 and conceded 41.
Tough test for Villa
Aston Villa (W) and West Ham United (W) need the points for very different reasons as the Super League Women 2025-2026 season reaches its climax on Monday.
Villa will need to keep pushing hard for the points to ensure their mid-table safety while West Ham must fight on to try to avoid the drop. The Villans are an open, attacking side under Spanish boss Natalia Arroyo and that should make for an open and exciting encounter at Villa Park, where Villa hold a historical edge over West Ham.
Arroyo’s side like to play on the front foot and the key to their game is possession-based, high-tempo pressing and quick vertical transitions to create scoring chances.
Guarino’s girls will give it a go
They will get plenty of joy from that against West Ham, who are solid but lack the same level of quality, although the Hammers have been more organised under Rita Guarino’s leadership since her appointment in December.
The Londoners have had inconsistent results, including a hard-fought 1-0 win at Liverpool. They also drew with both London City Lionesses and Manchester United in that period and were hammered 5-0 by Arsenal.
Guarino is doing a good job of building a platform to build from and will have her players fired up for this clash against a talented, if somewhat erratic, Villans side.
Villa have the edge in key areas
Arroyo’s team will play fast and direct but they are missing the goals of star striker Rachel Daly and Gabi Nunes at the moment while creative midfielder Lucia Kendall’s contribution is worth keeping an eye on. England keeper Ellie Roebuck adds pedigree to their goalkeeping ranks, but her fitness status is under assessment ahead of kickoff.
West Ham’s Riko Ueki provides a consistent goal threat up front and captain Katrina Gorry is an experienced and skilful midfield orchestrator, but the Hammers will miss the pace and flair of France’s Viviane Asseyi and Switzerland’s Leila Wandeler on the wings. Asseyi has chipped in with goals earlier this season and will be keen to add to that tally on Monday.
The overall quality of Villa’s team is greater than West Ham’s and that should tell in the end with a narrow home victory likely in what should be an entertaining match. Villa to win at 91/100 looks a fair price given they have won the last two WSL fixtures against the Londoners and know what it takes to get a result.
West Ham’s situational pressing and use of width could catch Villa out on the counter-attack, but the Villans’ pressing game and home advantage should just be enough to edge the match. We’re also going for over 2.5 goals at 13/20 because there should be enough chances for both teams to register in a full-tilt affair.
