Parkside opener to be a tale of two styles
These two sides are set to go head-to-head in the opening game of the Isthmian Premier season and both need a result to get the new season off to the perfect start. Aveley will look to build, switch, and go forward at pace, while Eastbourne Borough are a side who will look to keep it compact and counter attack. The styles contrast sharply in this opener, but there is no clear runaway pattern in the head-to-head between these two teams. Borough won 2-0 in March 2025, while Aveley won 2-0 in August 2023, and Eastbourne just edged a 2-1 victory last August. The hosts look the likelier winner on home turf, but this has all the signs of a competitive and tight game rather than a runaway.
Borough have more bite in the final third
Steve King has given Borough a more pragmatic edge since taking over in the summer as they will set up with more structure and organisation and are likely to do better in the set-piece game than they did last season. Alex Hobden gives them a last-line solidity and Alfie Pavey and Quevin Castro provide Borough with the bit of bite in the forward line.
Ryan Henshaw provides Aveley with leadership and authority in the backline, while Ollie Peters, Chris Harris and Max Booth give them their bite out wide and in the advanced areas. Brett Munyard has done a good job at Aveley and has kept them playing with energy and ambition. They can definitely score goals as their 3-2 and 5-1 wins suggest, but the defeats to Leiston and Ebbsfleet United suggest they haven't quite got the steel to keep them out at the other end yet.
Opposing goals is the play
Borough's summer has been mixed at best, but King will have used it to make a mark on his squad and it looks as though they will be a more organised and tougher unit to play against in 2026-2027. The 127/100 price is a little on the short side for them to come out on top, while Aveley are a shade too big at 149/100 and the draw doesn't quite make the cut at 27/10. Both teams to score seems like the only play in this fixture and the 47/100 price is just enough of a nudge towards the goals for us to take. Over 2.5 goals at 11/20 makes more sense than the under option, and these opening games can get heated with the warm weather and a healthy Parkside crowd, but it should be a chess match for the most part and a 2-1 Aveley edge is the most natural selection.
