Stortford will take the initiative
Bishop’s Stortford host Harborough Town in the Southern League Premier Division Central on Tuesday in what should be a cracking contest between two clubs with contrasting styles.
The hosts have been more of a long shot at 427/100 with Harborough Town around 27/50 to secure the victory. However, we’re taking the visitors here given their much superior league form, defensive discipline and recent record in this fixture.
Steve Castle’s men play a bold, high-tempo game in which they are always looking to put the opposition under pressure, especially in the wide areas. They can play fast-paced football when they have the ball, but their best attacking play comes from the high pressing they do to disrupt their opponents.
Harborough Town have been superb in 2025-26
Harborough Town are the epitome of discipline and structure, preferring to keep their defence in a compact shape, and springing occasional counters or playing direct when they gain the ball.
They have only conceded 14 goals in 14 away league games, so they are unlikely to be caught out on the counter and will certainly have a counter-attack to get at when the Stortford players are on the front foot.
Castle is known as an attacking manager and his team plays in that style, but they are also capable of rotating forwards and bringing on fresh legs at the right times to keep the tempo of their play high. Harborough Town's manager is a more pragmatic coach and prefers to sit in and nick a goal when they can - either through direct play or from set-pieces.
Both teams can score and Harborough can nick it
Bishop’s Stortford score an average of 1.53 and concede 1.71 goals per game at home, so this fixture should feature some end-to-end play. Harborough Town have kept multiple clean sheets in recent league matches and we feel they could do so here, but both teams to score at 41/50 is the play given the nature of the game these two will play on Tuesday.
Stortford have a mixed home record of eight wins, one draw and eight losses, so it is difficult to be too bullish about their prospects against a team as good as Harborough. The visitors have won four of their last five league contests, beating Barwell FC 3-0 and Worcester 1-0 in the past couple, but have split their away games with a win and a loss in their past two.
Bishop’s have won one and lost one of the past two head-to-head encounters and they should fancy their chances of getting some joy against a Harborough side that beat them 4-0 away in the previous league season. However, we’re supporting the away side to come away with the win because of their better record across all metrics and the fact that Bishop’s lost their most recent home clash with Harborough.
